I worked at Anixter Fasteners full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great entry level position with opportunity for growth and advancement. Senior Mgmt care about the team and is even reflected in how he calls his group team members and not just employees. Always being inventive in how to make things better and encouraging team members to be apart of it...

    Cons

Large team, that can at times drive gossip which is never good at place of work. Advancement takes time and can be difficult with the size of competition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep at it! Executives need to make sure they keep their Director and middle managers! Not always about numbers, remember the culture

It was ok. I was hired as a Recruiter, working virtually

I worked at Anixter Fasteners as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Good, solid company. Name recognition in the industry.

    Cons

Considering this is a Fortune 500 company that has been around a while, there don't appear to be any processes in place. Challenges run from not getting paid on time to laptop issues, to a total lack of communication. This $6.5 Billion dollar company still has not upgraded from Lotus Notes mail to Outlook. Really? As a Recruiter, a large part of my job is talking to Hiring Managers to get feedback on candidates, etc. I had an HR person who was so protective of her territory that she wouldn't let me have direct access to my Hiring Managers, who's positions I was working on. In a 20 year career, I can assure you that this was a first for me. Eventually, she allowed me access to one Hiring Manager. Yippee!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better communication. Try putting some basic processes in place. You guys must be doing something right because you're making money dispite yourself.

    Pros

The benefits were good. Many of the prescriptions that my family needed were covered 100%. They offer time off in a timely manner... instead of the accrural system.

    Cons

Nepotism was on the rise. Compensation is definitely on the low end..and increases were moderate at best. There was limited opportunity for advancement and little support from human resources.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your dependable employees... instead of the ones who tell the best jokes.

    Pros

Highly Structured, well defined roles. Endless opportunity to learn and grow. Lots of opportunity to make vertical moves within organization.

    Cons

Compensation package is not competitive, very high turnover rate for this reason.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The best thing you can do is work to engage employees and find other ways than compensation to show employees that they are valued.

    Pros

Lots of versatile learning opportunity and super helpful management. Very encouraging, understanding, and supportive. It's easy to move and work in the different departments that support the company.

    Cons

I have no substancial complaints. The pay isn't super awesome, but it more then suffices for entry level positions.

    Pros

    There are no positives run!

    Cons

Started July 2011 after first week I realized I was nothing more than a data entry specialist. I internally applied for a position in Wood Dale after 3 months in the fasteners division. I had my manager actually ask if I was running from her. I gave the politically correct response. The true answer was yes I ran the hell out of fasteners. In the one year I worked at Anixter over 25 co-workers in the fasteners quit. Worst company ever, don't even think about applying. I would rather be unemployed then working at Anixter. The managers defiantly have their little favorite click, if your not in it don't worry you won't survive.
