I have been working at Ann Taylor full-time

    Pros

Ann has a great work life balance. Each team interacts with other teams to maintain a good working environment. Team outings are a plus on getting to know your coworkers. I enjoy working with my coworkers. They aren't just coworkers but we have grown to be friends.

    Cons

There is no work life balance anymore. Roles are not clearly defined. It seems very chaotic and not the way it used to be. New strategies are being put into place so hopefully this helps.

    Advice to Management

Work closer with your team. Define each individuals roles and what you want to see them accomplish. Go over goals with each member of your team. Make sure that if there is too much on your plate to have your manager help work with you to make improvements.

    Pros

You get to work with a lot of great people that share many similar interest as you and become your very good friends. Because the retail store is a bit more mature you encounter little drama. Ann INC participates in many charities. There is also a great associate discount.

    Cons

Working in retail, you have to work nights, weekends and holidays. Retail is not easy in the sense that you have to deal with many different personalities in one day. You are on your feet for many hours and it is required that you look fashionable and presentable every shift.

    Pros

Good people and fun environment...the pace keeps things interesting and you are able to meet and deal with new people each day.

    Cons

Little growth and opportunity...for the most part, there is small openings to move around.you will be doing more lateral moves before you see actual growth in your career.

    Advice to Management

Train and coach more and recognize the potential you have while it is there and not when it is moving on.

    Pros

You can wear jeans daily. Company supports st Jude & breast cancer charities.

    Cons

This company is falling apart. Leadership is terrible, day-to-day is useless.

    Advice to Management

Put better managers in place that can spearhead teams and innovate solutions. Turnover is terrible for a reason.

    Pros

    - The pay rate is better than most retailers
    - Minimum wage in California is $9.00 but starting rate is around $10
    - You get to style clients from head to toe
    - Non commission based which is a plus
    - Promotions available within the store
    - I got hired as a seasonal sales associate, got promoted to sales lead, and I am currently in training to become a Co-manager. I've been with the company less than 2 years.
    - You do get to build really good relationships with each other when you're not competing for sales
    - Most of the time people apply to work there because they really are interested in fashion and styling clients. The one's who are there just for work don't last very long
    - You get to build personal relationships with your clients and learn what they like and dislike

    Cons

    - Miscommunication between managers
    - Sometimes on a busy day employees lack motivation to help each other, no team work
    - Competitiveness between sales associates to make their goals for the day
    - Manager favoritism
    - Employees who speak a second language tend to use it in front of customers and other associates constantly
    - Very high employee turnover rate, sales associates usually don't last a month.

    Advice to Management

    - Stop with the favoritism
    - Learn how to communicate better between managers and associates
    - Understand that part-timers work part-time for a reason, we are going to school full time as well
    - Associates and Sales Leads all need a good work life balance too, not just the Store Manager and the Co-Manager. We don't want to be closing every night 5-days a week.
