    I have been working at Ann Taylor

    Pros

    The 50% off discount. Warm environment, friendly staff and managers

    Cons

    Event planning and outreach programs. Low pay. Promotion within is very hard to come by.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay employees more. Promote more within.

    I have been working at Ann Taylor part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    easy work, fun & friendly coworkers/management; great employee discount on clothes; management (at least at the two stores I worked at) were always willing to help/answer questions & give recognition when due; flexible work scheduling (store manager always approved my time off requests & worked around my availability); opportunities for promotion; yearly reviews letting you know where you stand; partnered with st. jude & raised money for them, which i felt was really rewarding

    Cons

    start at $8.10 an hour, yearly raise was only .10 more;
    working with all females meant there was a lot of gossip, cattiness & oversharing of inappropriate information;
    a lot of the clients were rude & snobby, acted like we were trying to rip them off or cheat them out of something (not all, some were really nice);
    huge emphasis on selling credit cards to clients & upgrading store cards to master cards. felt like we were pressuring clients into this, which i was uncomfortable with. having a "zero day" (where the store had no credit card applications) meant closing manager would be held accountable & put a lot of stress on them;
    disconnect between district managers & company decision makers (people who don't work in actual store) with stores;
    one of my managers was not pragmatic at all, she would make decisions based on her mood & wasn't willing to listen to your input. if it wasn't her idea, she would disagree, even if your suggestion was a good one. she was unable or unwilling to delegate important responsibilities to her team & insisted on doing a lot of things herself, which meant that too many things didn't get done. she never completed training her staff, leaving us to figure it out ourselves.

    Cons

    Somewhat difficult to move up the ladder. Times seems to fly yet promotions don't move at the same rate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Continue to strengthen employees but also look to build them into the next position if seen fit.

    Cons

    As for cons, I don't have any. When you join the retail world you should be sure to be a flexible person.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
