    Pros

It was your basic gym manager role. Sales, calls prospecting, client relations. Overall it isn't a bad place to work. Since most of these gyms are franchised their are many types of owners and their will be a lot of different view. I would give my former owner 2 stars. The company and business concept itself is great. Anytime Fitness corporate in Minnesota is the place where you can get better pay and benefits.

    Cons

Bad pay, longer hours then what your initially told. They tell you how much you can make but really you are far below the average for a gym manager. When I was hired I was told after commission by pay would be around 65K. Well the most I made was 32K. You are actually on call 24/7. You get constant emails on your weekends off, if an alarm is set off at 3am, you have to go in and turn it off. Constant verbal harassment from the owner. Not much support or training given.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To franchise owners, value your employees more. Show you care about them and not making it all about yourself. The more you care for them, the more they will do for you.

    Pros

Excellent place to work if you enjoy the fitness environment. Meet a lot of people and make many friends. Get free membership as well as access to every other club anywhere you go. Not very many dissatisfied customers, company makes it easy to sign-up and/or cancel membership. It's a 24 hour gym so you can come and go as you please.

    Cons

Little room for growth. Handle many responsibilities without being compensated for them. Hard to get time off considering there aren't many employees at a single location.

I have been working at Anytime Fitness full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, good training and events from the corporate office, great business model to mold your selling style, because they encourage you to listen and not just be pushy. Club culture and opportunity to help people is amazing, makes you remember why you got in the business in the first place.

    Cons

Compensation isn't encompassing for the work a lot of the GM's will have to do, as you basically own the club with none of the perks of being an owner. Since most clubs are franchised and independently owned, the opportunity for advancement and promotions are cloudy, at best. There seems to be a disconnect between the corporate office and their franchisees that maybe aren't performing up to their standards. No real system or real time help for a Manager that maybe has a club owner who isn't engaged, and can perform duties relating to the business that only you can.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate needs to be more involved in failing clubs, or clubs that have intense competition. Anytime thrives in communities where there isn't enough population to justify having a big box gym in town. They thrive when the town can be engaged enough that Anytime can be woven into the fabric of the community, but that isn't always the case with real big towns or certain communities. I would recommend bringing a franchise consultant to towns where clubs are failing so that corporate can find out first hand why clubs are failing. Also, I recommend some kind of promotion system for outstanding GM's where they can connect with like-minded franchise owners to become DM's or RM's. Not the typical system for Anytime, but having the most valuable people in the highest positions possible lead to a better brand because they can bring like-minded people in under them.
