I have been working at Aon Hewitt full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The work is engaging, impacting people's lives in tangible ways. I work in pension administration and it's easy to see how what I do matters. If I code something wrong, a person's payment might be wrong or delayed. The work environment is also good - many people work from home at least part time, if not full time. This allows for great flexibility in keeping work/life balance. Pay and benefits are ok. Nothing overly generous, but I think they are competitive.

    Cons

Because so many people work remotely I think it's difficult for a new hire to get up to speed. There isn't that person in the next cube to ask questions. Pay increases are generally small - budget is 2% over the last several years, meaning in order to give someone 4% someone else gets 0%. So unless you're stellar, don't expect big raises.

    Advice to Management

Keep communicating. Over the last year there has been far more communication in response to engagement surveys, and I think it's helping people feel they belong and know what's going on.

I have been working at Aon Hewitt (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The team is very friendly and some managers are flexible with the work from home ability.

    Cons

Some managers could use more manager training.

I worked at Aon Hewitt full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Good training program for recent college grads - Generally, a fun group of colleagues to work with - Remote work flexibility for those who need it

    Cons

    - Management inattentive to employee growth needs - Silly performance evaluation system - Compensation is pretty weak relative to peers, as is compensation growth; this generates a lot of unnecessary attrition - Middle management is generally more concerned with protecting themselves than actually doing right by the employees or the long-term success of the business

    Advice to Management

    - Focus on growing and retaining your young talent. You pay to train them, you might as well keep them! It will pay dividends in the long run.

I have been working at Aon Hewitt (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexibility to work from home, professed culture is fantastic

    Cons

Culture isn't necessarily true to what is portrayed; upper management provides insufficient support

I have been working at Aon Hewitt as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Steady constant development, with lots of opportunity to learn many many different skills, just need to ask. management who mentors their people, autonomy, 100% customer satisfaction, finally someone or someplace that gets it. everyone/customer has pain we just have to help to curb that discomfort. as much time as need be to do that.

    Cons

have not found any yet honest

    Advice to Management

lots of talented people need to be challenged more.

    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Aon Hewitt as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

As an contractor I was able to work mostly remotely.

    Cons

My experience: 1) A command & control environment run by non-programming domain experts which emphasized immediate results at the expense of system integrity. 2) A rigid intra-IT departmental structure which negatively impacted system interconnection.

    Advice to Management

None. None. None. None. None. None. None. None. None. None. None. None. None. None. (Did I reach the "20 word minimum"?)

I have been working at Aon Hewitt full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits such as subsidized health insurance, 401k match, stock purchase etc. Decent people to work with in terms of peers and most management.

    Cons

Hours can fluctuate pretty dramatically from 40 to 70+. The starting pay is pretty low for tech roles so the entry level employees aren't usually very strong.
