I have been working at Aon Hewitt full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The work is challenging, we have a strong group of leaders who really try to do what's best for the company, though often at the expense of the underlings.

    Cons

There is a severe resistance to change - everyone prefers to protect their spot or their people rather than making changes to the common good. Leadership changes their mind way too often, there are way too many instances where they'll designate a project as priority, only to change tracks the next day

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to spend less time giving lip service to engagement, and more time actually spent on improving it for all colleagues - not just a small subset

I have been working at Aon Hewitt full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The culture is amazing. Leadership is not secluded off in a different area. If you are great at networking, conversations by the coffee area can bring forth great opportunities. Everyone is really willing to help, and there is a great emphasis on leadership being close and connected to what the other employees face daily.

The biggest Pro would be the ability to have a flexible schedule. There is a large virtual population, and having a schedule that allows for a few days virtual a week can really help with planning other life plans, vacations, etc.

Great benefits when it comes to health and welfare, and 401k matches

    Cons

It is a new industry, and there are many changes so there is a lot of gray area when it comes to your role. Patience and flexibility are a needed trait.

A lack of adequate training for certain job functions.

The workforce is filled with many individuals that have been in their role for 10+ years, and do not look like they are moving any time soon. Career growth can be stunted depending on that area of the business you reside.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on targeted engagement. When you roll out engagement strategies, segment your workforce by generation and really appeal to what each cohort feels secure about. This may give better results than lumping everyone under one category.

Overall positive, but extreme cost pressures exist that are driving very lean staffing and and uptick in attrition.

I have been working at Aon Hewitt full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Flexible schedule, open door policy with leadership.

    Cons

Very low merit increases, if any. Low bonus payouts, especially the last few years. 50 hr/week is the expectation, and little time to devote to personal growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to appreciate the value of tenure on the floor, and the cost to replace that level of experience. Often penny wise and pound foolish when it comes to holding on to key talent.

I have been working at Aon Hewitt full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Flexible hours, mountains of data and training, we always strive to do the best for our clients

    Cons

No time to take all of the training, sometimes too much data to sift through, work/life balance is non-existent; despite the ability to work from home, a 50-hour work week is pretty much expected

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We have always prided ourselves on going above and beyond when necessary, but that has become the norm, rather than the exception. It's difficult to access the fortitude to 'step up' when it seems like you have to do that just to complete your normal workload.

I worked at Aon Hewitt full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Allowed me to work from home for many years.

    Cons

I left after 25 years because I was tired of the growing workload which was already too much to handle. Instead of hiring more people, they drove away my entire group due to being overworked and underpaid and undervalued. Despite meeting and/or exceeding expectations, I received 0% pay increases year after year. It's not worth the stress.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire quality people in adequate numbers like you used to do before Aon came into the picture.

I have been working at Aon Hewitt full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I gained a lot of information on the industry, there was excellent training when the company was Hewitt Associates. Not sure how it is now under Aon. The many people I worked with were awesome and demonstrated integrity.

    Cons

The worst part of working here was the 65-70 hour work weeks (no overtime). It's my understanding that this is still the same under Aon. Had hoped they would change this. Would go back to work there if they would hire enough people to do the job!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are a lot of people who still need jobs; help the economy and reward your loyal workers by giving them work/life balance. They would like to see their families and actually have enough time to enjoy them.

I have been working at Aon Hewitt full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Flexibility, work from home, basic benefits training- if you are just starting, this is the place to learn all the basics. After that, get out while you can.

    Cons

terrible management and leadership, the decision to send work offshore was the worst possible thing this company could have done. Work is lacking quality all in the name of saving a dollar......

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop burning everyone out because offshore can't keep up....you'll continue to lose the best employees you have and you'll learn the hard way, when clients start leaving...

I worked at Aon Hewitt full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Training, from visiting folks in Chicago, was mostly a good experience. Bennies start on day one and, while good, aren't great. Most employees seemed somewhat intelligent.

    Cons

They have unrealistic measurement metrics related to dealing with senior citizens (expected call times, etc.). WAY too micro-managed (somewhat necessary in a call center, but this goes too far; the "occurrence" thing is also obnoxious. The licensing area seemed incompetent. Quality Managers, who review calls to uncover minute mistakes, are also fairly incompetent). Scripts are long and annoying (gov't requirements are bad enough, but then AH adds more), must deal with too many different apps/programs while on calls, technology is unreliable, managers do not appear to be very helpful (office chats don't help much either). BAs must take CSR calls, which is distracting (move the HRA stuff elsewhere, dammit). They have taken on AT&T as a huge new client and don't think they thought it through properly beforehand, because they aren't ready for this Fall. Folks will be overworked to well beyond the breaking point. Facility in Charlotte is overcrowded and in a terrible location for anyone who lives in the southern parts. Most of management is white, while 90% of employees are black. Weird, but this is basically a British company...A large part of management is in their 20s.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do you REALLY understand the senior market? Should you even be in this business?
