I have been working at Apache part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Exciting and new projects on the go. Continuing to explore, and introducing new innovations.

    Cons

Soem attention may be diverted away from international regions and focusing more on the states.

I have been working at Apache full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

3 weeks off. 1 hours flight to heli-port. Maintenance & Production Team are first class to work with, everybody very helpful.

    Cons

Sometimes too many projects on-going at same time. Old redundant equipment very slow if at all ever removed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate the teams you have in place on these old challenging platforms. Miracles are sometimes performed by experienced operators to prevent production shutdowns. This years bonus did not reflect all our hard work even though we are currently & have been for some time the No1 Operarting Efficiency Company of the North Sea at 96%. Pay rise due make it a good one.

I have been working at Apache full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Egypt is an interesting location, pay is pretty good if you can hang in long enough to get vested in shares, etc.

    Cons

Egypt wears on you after awhile. The company tries to make it livable, but for families it can be difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be some kind of uplift to work in the Joint Ventures! Work in the JV can be very very difficult due to exposure to all the elements of the Egyptian General Petroleum Company. Upper management of Apache should walk over and visit the JVs from time to time. At least come and chat with the upper management of the JV and walk a day in our muddy shoes.

    Good Internship

    Former Employee - IT Intern

I worked at Apache as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

    Friendly atmosphere and relaxed environment.

    Cons

    Not a lot of self-development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Involve the interns more.

I worked at Apache full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Minimal red tape in performing duties (unlike many peers, APA has yet to be paralysed by overblown HR and IT policies); employees afforded a high degree of empowerment for the job level, excellent team rapport, potential for rapid promotion. Proportion of benefit package tied to bonus is much larger than majority of peers - potential for 100% payout in a really good year.

    Cons

APA has seen tremendous share growth in recent years, but has been relatively flat for the last few, and potentially attractive bonus features (TSR, RSU's) are likely to generate little value in the short to medium term. Length of service and nationality count more than experience. Non-US staff treated as second class citizens with different opportunity set, salary scales and benefit packages. HR staff poorly trained and lack maturity and experience to appropriately manage people moves. Steve Farris coming to end of career and a radical change in management style will liekly occur when he goes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

APA has recently grown into a very big fish in a fairly small pond. Gut feel probably no longer sufficient to generate the shareholder value needed to distinguish from crowd.

I have been working at Apache full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Decisions made quickly, always striving for improvement, great team.

    Cons

Corporate policy feels like it is starting to interfere at Region level. Market forces are pulling staff away, if you want to be the best you need to pay to keep the best. Watch out!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Watch the bureaucratic empire building, get back to basics and get lean and mean again.

    Former Employee - Internal Auditor
    Former Employee - Internal Auditor

    I worked at Apache full-time

    Pros

Great medical and retirement benefits. Stock incentive plans are enticing. Competitive pay for industry & job market. Seasoned industry employees; great opportunities to learn E&P industry. Stable company; executive management has a history of making smart investment decisions. SAP shop. Audit dept is ACL friendly.

    Cons

Company culture is who you know not what you know. In reference to Internal Audit Dept, training opportunities are limited; certifications are not encouraged/supported (i.e. CPA, CIA, CFE); dept. loosely follows IIA stds; closed door culture, lacks open communication.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great job on where you have taken company. If you would like to make the company "a great place to work" consider addressing issues with low level management (i.e., managers, directors). Allow employees to feel empowered. Consider changing your annual merit review structure.

I have been working at Apache full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Mid sized independent with caring work environment. Empowers employees to follow their heart with great "go get it", no blame culture. Efficient systems processes that let you get on with your job and not do business with yourself (for now).

    Cons

Highly competitive peer group makes it harder and harder to increase shareholder value - law of diminishing returns kicking in as company grows. CEO close to retirement and in danger of losing direction. Procurement chain on brink of being hijacked by lawyers, middle management layer and SAP on pretext of "value add".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it simple, restrict application of SAP to what it was designed for, do not under any circumstances allow delegation of roles through SAP as has happened at other companies. That's a fast track to doing business with yourself. Review LTI structure - may not provide as much of an incentive as in previous years due to recent rapid growth of company and difficulty in maintaining steady share price increase.
