Former Employee – worked at Apotex Pharmaceuticals full-time for more than a year

ProsGood training requirements and documentation practices. The company invests heavily on ensuring that all employees have a training matrix that outlines the training they must complete prior to starting their job. Great benefits and flexible work hours.

ConsInsufficent auditing of their practices and investment into equipment. Also, although a lot of training is involved in becoming a part of this organization, the employees are not provided with sufficient time to attend training. Training courses are packed with information; courses that should be a day long are shorted to half-day sessions.

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease release time for employees to attend training.

ProsLocation, benefits package, vacation, diverse products

ConsMorale, HR practices, internal department issues, highly disorganized company.

Advice to Senior ManagementFIRE the ENTIRE HR DEPARTMENT. How can a PhD student from an Ivy League research University, whose NATIVE language is ENGLISH fail the basic Language Assessment Test and another candidate who has a Masters Degree in Science from England, fail the basic Language Assessment Test. . FYI people in England, speak English. Even the village idiot could pass this test, this is how basic it is. Nobody at Apotex provides the results to candidates. I really wonder what qualifications the employees in HR have. Senior management really needs to take a look at the HR practices. If they practices are kosher, then why not share the results with the candidates, even provide them with the scoring. Something is seriously wrong and needs to be investigated. After two years in the company I am fed up with what is happening and I am a manager.

ProsThey are very diligent and thorough in training new hires and existing employees. You will definitely start your job well-equipped and trained to be more than competent. Lots of overtime is available and there is always something which needs to be done when things get slow.

ConsIf you make one mistake, be very aware that nobody is your ally. It is more than likely your last mistake. Your managers are no longer your advocate, and your co-workers will try to put the blame on you at every opportunity because of the stringent standards. Remuneration is definitely an issue, when you consider that floor production employees hold a great amount of responsibility for quality and documentation. It is not a job that any person plucked off from the street can perform at a competent and compliant level. Other colleagues in identical jobs elsewhere who work the floor with our kind of experience are making around 4-5/hr more than myself.

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease the base pay for packaging and production floor employees. Give us a bigger slice of the incentive pay. Better benefits more in line with other regulated companies/industries is definitely something they should give us. I used to work in car rental and the benefits package is identical--for shame. End the rush-rush mentality and allow us techs on the floor to actually focus on properly documenting the hundreds of logs and forms so that we may do our jobs right the first time.
