Pros
Apple is a great place to work. It beats any other retail establishment, hands down, in regard to how employees are treated by management, compensated, and given opportunities. It is highly demanding work but you know that you are always supported by competent managers and team members.
Cons
Its great for retail! But... it is still retail. They work with you schedule the best they can but it isn't always ideal.
Advice to Senior Management
The required corporate training should be tailored to individuals new roles in the company, not a general overview. I felt extremely surprised and unprepared for my role as a back of house specialist after corporate training.
Pros
Lots of paid training and management that cares about your development as a person. Great benefits and vacation package and discounts on hardware and software. Training is a top priorty and is worked into our schedule.
Cons
In a retail position the hours are bad. It is a physically demanding job as you are on your feet all day. And the downside of working for a company who cares is customers can really try to get all they can out of you even when you go above and beyond.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire more employees at a higher rate of pay so you will have less turnover and more competency. Talk more with all emplyees not just the ones that complain the loudest.
Pros
Great products and phenomenal co-workers! An awesome work environment that cultivated creativity and competition. I woke up every day and could not wait to get to work!
Cons
Incredible grind over time. 80 hours a week was nothing unusual and very hard when trying to raise a family.
Advice to Senior Management
Appreciate the effort of your teams. Set realistic goals, not easy but realistic, and never stop asking "What can I do to help?". Your team and its members and your shared success are a direct reflection on you.
Pros
great product easy to sale
Cons
Pay a little low for job
Advice to Senior Management
increase pay to other peoples pay
Pros
Fun, great incentives. I get to hire nerds all day long, and I absolutely love each one of them.
Cons
The way the the company is structured at the top will eventually collapse. Every company has growing pains, but I get irritated because of the way a lot of things are ran.
Advice to Senior Management
LEARN FROM OTHER RETAILERS MISTAKES!!! I love this company but ya'll just do not get it!
Pros
Great culture surrounding the brand. A place where honesty is encouraged, and not trying to just sell something to someone for the hell of it. Lots of benefits, and perks for full time, and part time alike to take advantage of.
Cons
Didn't like the fact that employees were almost made to feel expendable, regardless of the level of service they brought to the company, and their positive contribution to heighten the experience for the consumer. I watched a lot of good employees get drop for being late a few times in a heavy traffic, constantly congested location.
Advice to Senior Management
My advice is to don't treat employees like children behind closed doors, and not give them respect in that regard, but then turn around and expect them to be adults when dealing with customers.
Pros
They pay you good the people are nice ect, ect, ect, ect, ect
Cons
Nothing it is very good
Advice to Senior Management
Thanks
Pros
Great product, fun coworkers, fun overall atmosphere.
Cons
One word: Retail. If you already have a degree, and are hoping a job at the Apple Store will get you noticed in the corporate world, forget it. If you are a student and need a cool $10/per hour job, then go for it. Otherwise, expect to be treated as just a warm body - management may talk you up about opportunities, but they are only concerned with one thing: making a sale. Coworkers who toe-the-line in the surreal 1984-style atmosphere behind the polished steel and glass doors are rewarded while those who may have real-world experience but don't become the store manager's pet are not. Check your real world at the door when you take a job for Apple Retail, because you have just entered Ron Johnson's fantasy land domain where Apple Stores are synonymous to ivy league universities such as Stanford, but not surprisingly, salaries aren't!
Advice to Senior Management
Promote people based on background and experience, not brown-nosing or Kool-Aid drinking.
Pros
Working at Apple was a very rewarding experience. You really feel as if you are part of a bigger picture and a close knit team with one big goal. You are praised for a good work and there are many activities to motivating employees and satisfying rewards for when you do so. For the big picture, when the store does well, you do well
Cons
It can be a bit overwhelming sometimes and a bit hectic, but it comes with the territory and can be rewarding for the most part.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management should continue pushing the Apple vision and help connect the "team" that the store represents.
