Great talent, interesting work, but lots of uncertainty and not enough direction.

    Senior Research Scientist (Current Employee)
    Basking Ridge, NJ

ProsWork is incredibly interesting and diverse across a multitude of disciplines. Life/Work balance is great, as are the flexible hours. Work force has tremendous talent in a number of areas.

ConsScrambling for hours when a number of projects end at the same time. Top heavy and often clueless upper management.

Advice to Senior ManagementCut out unproductive upper management in DC who are not adding value.

15+ years there and it's been a generally good ride.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsTruly bright, often world class, people with strong desires to make a difference
    Good corporate ethics
    Consistently interesting work
Some of the previous GDoor comments on senior management were a bit broad brush. Our group views the NJ team as being strong, with good staff repo ire & good results (I.e., decent bonus payout for we worker bees), particularly the last few years

ConsTheir previously distinct Bell Labs/Bellcore/Telcordia identity has been diminished due to multiple corporate divestitures, spinoffs & sales by successive owners

Advice to Senior ManagementStand strong & TOGETHER

Great work, talented co-workers but top heavy

    Senior Research Scientist (Current Employee)
    Basking Ridge, NJ

    Pros- great learning experience
    - flexible hours
    - opportunity to publish papers and attend conferences

    Cons- business growth relatively flat
    - top heavy organization
    - management without long term view
    - no benefits or team building activities

Advice to Senior Managementmake management layer leaner; improve benefits; share profit with engineers

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Talented workforce is the only redeeming feature of this place.

    Executive Director (Current Employee)
    Basking Ridge, NJ

ProsYou can find real experts under one roof. Work/life balance is still valued and respected

ConsManagement is clueless. The track record for commercializing IP is nil. Considerable internal competition is hurting morale.

Advice to Senior ManagementToo much management overhead. Some of the leadership should go on sabbatical, Making internal people fight for every proposal is not a growth strategy. Build long-term relationship with product companies and create a viable path for revenue besides contract research.
