    Pros

Co-workers were pleasant. Company generous to employees supplied work shoes. Free flu shots. Management was easy to work with.

    Cons

Being a contract worker is difficult since you are not an actual employee. Would like to see them hire more people to become employees from the contractor pool.

    Pros

Very solid and professional staff. Engineers are generally more top notch than other places that I have worked.
Lots of internal training available. Highly ethical and moral company. Good benefits and bonuses. Nice working environment, Leading edge technology

    Cons

Business units are tend to be in silos. Not enough clarity of communication. In fact one could argue that communication is kept purposefully obscure in order to protect customer's confidential information. Security is to such an absurd level that it really hinders productivity, which is frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Bring IT infrastructure entirely under the corporate umbrella and do not outsource this critical function - contract and outsourced turnover is too high resulting in lost institutional knowledge and productivity.

    Pros

I want to say there are pros since there are 20 word minimum requirement before i can move on to the next section, cons, but i simply cannot come up with one, except maybe it's located in California, a place with nice weather

    Cons

Tons~~ management ask smart phd to do things that even a high school student would feel non-challenging and non-technical. What's worse is that they think you are not smart bc you don't feel like doing those meaningless stuff.

Oh, and their market share in key areas, etch, is like 12%, compared to Lam that has more than 60%!

    Advice to Management

no advice since if they can improve based on ppl's advice, they would have improved long time ago. Don't expect management to change because TIA, this is Applied.

    Pros

Agree with others about the professional, smart and talented people at AMAT. Where I was working there were a number of veterans and ex-nuclear power sailors like myself, which made for a driving "get'er done" environment.

    Cons

Yes company's focus is definitely towards Asia. Not surprising since biggest customers are now in Taiwan, Japan and China. Also helped by AMAT's merger with Tokyo Electron.
Also, agree with the overtime / outside normal business hours operations.
AMAT have outsourced a lot of parts and operations so vendors at times know more about processes than AMAT people. So there is the issue of tribal knowledge versus loss of Intellectual Property to those outside vendors.

    Advice to Management

The customer may be right, however don't fixate on the ship/delivery date if there are ANY issues with the product. Rework costs $$$$, especially if slipping dates means it can be sent at 100% complete.

It has been a great company to work for with competitive compensation for my region.

    Pros

Interesting technology and great coworkers that have become friends over the years. The compensation is competitive with other businesses within the industry and the benefits package is above average.

    Cons

As the company has grown and executive management has changed the focus has been to reduce costs and maximize profits and shareholder returns. Some benefits and programs have suffered because of this.

    Advice to Management

My primary advise to upper management would be to remember the balance between employee satisfaction and maximizing returns. Some budget cuts have effected moral, but done little in the way of cost reduction in the grand scheme of things.
