I have been working at Applied Systems

    Pros

People I work with are pretty cool.

    Cons

Crappy training and an extreme lack of communication within and between different departments. Nobody knows what the heck is going on. Communication to customers on inconsistent issues with product implementation is difficult because why it's not working is not understood. Sales also doesn't know what the products do some of the time and make implementation look like idiots when the client says "what do you mean it doesn't do that?" Or "I didn't know I needed that". Then there is a delay and you get in trouble with management, because the reports are off and they want to know why it's not completed. Well sorry the customer drives the speed of the implementation, whether management wants to admit it or not. We cannot force clients to answer right away. If they are busy, they are busy. Hello???? The entire economy is overworked, and those that have jobs are very busy and struggle to complete items that are not their #1 priority. If they are paying for the product and not answering the phone, oh well. 40 hour work week is not enough time to get work done, and extra time needs to be put in to complete work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on communication of enhancements and what is needed to make those enhancements work, instead of us just having to guess. You know that really is great way to run a business. Oh and to be efficient, when someone has a question, just answer it instead of giving them a resource and making them search for it, because that just wastes more time. We need to be more efficient right? Seems like some of the customer resources are the same way. I'm sure they enjoy searching for the answer too.

really nice coworkers bound by common suffering'
beautiful facility and grounds w/ scattered seating throughout building (see below)
    on-site workout area/program

    Cons

    in the middle of nowhere
    base salary is laughable
on target earnings is greatly exaggerated
    micromanagement
management boasts of record profits, yet ZERO is filtered down
company cuts every possible corner where employees are concerned
    dead end role
grounds, seating, walking path.... all props to give the illusion of a tech/start-up environment
employees must pay to participate in exercise program
base pay is 20% 30% less than similar roles in Chicago

I have been working at Applied Systems full-time

    Pros

Very supportive in your career and a very well run company. Investing in the right places to be sure there is not just growth, but the right type growth so that not only are there more things to sell, but our customers will benefit from those investments as well. A good combination!

    Cons

Getting a little slower on the new development/deployment, but that is because of a desire to do it right. Frustrating sometimes for sales people, but in the end it's the right way to do it.

I have been working at Applied Systems full-time

    Pros

Performance is rewarded in most departments.
Management very understanding about family related issues (balance between work and family)
Executive management good about sharing goals/progress with employees. Very forward thinking.
Wide variety of technologies used, flexibility in location (several office locations and telecommuting)

    Cons

Some areas have significant technology debt, so developers may end up supporting older technologies.
Some managers spend too much time micro-managing.
Some processes seems to exist for the sole purpose of maintaining the process. Otherwise they serve very little business need.
Pay does not compare well with jobs in city/western suburbs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue working to improve communication. Look long at hard at some of the micro-management that occurs in product management.

Overall, we are in a much better place each year than the previous years (and certainly in a much better place than the time before Reid French).

I worked at Applied Systems full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Most people are friendly depending on the department. Depending on who you know, you will be allowed to move up in the company. Very understanding about work-2-life needs when it comes to scheduling and/or working from home. You can learn a lot about technology. No traffic to deal with at the location. Huge property and easy parking.

    Cons

Inter-departmental communication is minimal. Raises are small. Some managers care more about profits than employees. Few mistakes are allowed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Middle management seems to be under pressure which leads to poor decisions. Listen more to first level managers.
