I worked at Aquarium of the Pacific

    Pros

Great people to work with! Everyone here enjoys what they do and have a passion for the Aquarium's mission of instilling a sense of wonder, respect, and stewardship for the Pacific Ocean. Even the CEO is easily approachable!

    Cons

Upward movement into management could be difficult here since there's not that many positions available.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not much to say, management was very supportive.

I worked at Aquarium of the Pacific part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

the company provides an atmosphere where all employees are active participants in every aspect of the company if they so choose. They provide information all areas of the Aquarium and it's various programs. As well as creating a network that reaches beyond the Aquarium out into Long Beach and beyond.

    Cons

Being that they are a non-profit organization some aspects of the company are run differently than they would be at other companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to be more aware of treating all emplotees the same from continuing employees to new hires. Being sure that all employees are held up to the same standards and are fulfilling the same responsabilities.

I worked at Aquarium of the Pacific part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

People and the animals are fantastic, and there is so much to learn and experience here.
Work as a real team with your co-workers... more like a family.

    Cons

Pay is not the greatest as it is a non-profit organization
Many positions are seasonal and may not last longer than the summer, but if you do a really great job, then many people do get hired on as permanent employees after the summer is over.

I have been working at Aquarium of the Pacific

    Pros

There are all levels of employment here, entry level hourly to executive. Job satisfaction seems to vary by where you fall on the totem pole. The Aquarium is good at recognizing and rewarding good performance and opportunities for growth can be available to those who show initiative.

    Cons

Communication can be a challenge here. Much of that may be due to the wide varieties of schedules that are worked. It's nearly impossible to even get everyone from one department in the same room at one time. That can lead to information being passed on incorrectly, or not passed on at all.

I worked at Aquarium of the Pacific

    Pros

Being a member of the Aquarium's music performance cast yielded great pay, for a student, and allowed for a good time at work.

    Cons

The aquarium was small, and since I had lots of down time, it was easy to get bored. Employee cafeteria wasn't great.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If the employee food cafeteria was better employees would appreciate the Aquarium of the Pacific much more. Other than than, it was great.

I worked at Aquarium of the Pacific

    Pros

Good place to get a job, not a place for a career. You get a paycheck, which I guess it's a positive.

    Cons

There are key people in a few departments, that if you get in their good graces you are set, but if you aren't willing to bow to them they'll force you out. This place is more cliquish than highschool.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat everyone equally. Too many people are forced out because they are not part of the "in-crowd." Some of the older employees are the worst regarding this!

I worked at Aquarium of the Pacific full-time

    Pros

Dynamic peers. Top management has integrity. Nice location.

    Cons

High workload with limited financial resources. This is primarly due to how AoP was financially structured when it was created (attendance was over predicted).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A sesne of urgency taken to far reduces productivity.
    Kudos for your integrity.
