I worked at Arbitron full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Arbitron WAS a great company. They set up employee outings and team building exercises. Benefits were out of this world. 401k and profit share was good.
Moral was usually high and everyone at Arbitron treated one another like family.

All of my star ratings and approval for the CEO are all for Arbitron.

    Cons

Once the "merger" began with Nielsen everything went down hill. People became distant and secretive. You never knew what was going to happen next. Although the Nielsen staff ensured that everyone would be kept in the lope with all the changes that would be happening within the company; things seemed to pan out a little different.

When the day came for layoffs to happen you were basically treated like a contestant on American Idol. You were taken into a room and told whether you were staying or going and never given a reason for why you were one of the 600 let go.

After everything was changed to Nielsen you no longer felt like an employee. But rather just another "associate."

    Pros

Great co-workers and very supportive supervisors and managers. Arbitron is a company that supports and encourages its employees to grow and develop. Supervisors and managers are very encouraging and work with people on all levels. Very positive work environment with many happy employees. It's a different place to work. Managers encourage and support teamwork.

    Cons

There is nothing to complain about at Arbitron when you compare it to the rest of the business world. Sure, things change and then change again, but that's just life. Being adaptable is essential in every job!

Keep on keeping people happy and supporting those under you...your love of the business and of your company shows in all that you do.

I have been working at Arbitron full-time

    Pros

Great benefits including some over and aboves like contribution to dependent care account
Great work / life balance (for real)
Tons have people have been at the company for 10+ years
Lots of very happy employees that will tell you so
Lots of dignity and respect for people here

    Cons

Nothing that isn't at every company...you just have to have some patience to work through a variety of systems and departments to get certain answers and resolution to issues
Lots of different (and great) products to learn, but plenty of people like those sorts of challenges

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I worked at Arbitron

    Pros

Benefits are very good. Management for the most part is supportive and understanding. Product is something to be proud of. Honesty and integrity are values that are reinforced.

    Cons

Business model is constantly being tweaked and resources are being shifted. Some parts of the organization are in 2010 while others are stuck in the 1960s. If you do not have industry experience do not expect anyone to have time to bring you up to speed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep upholding honesty and integrity, these values make a difference in wanting to give your best. Freezing pay raises, cutting employess, and not providing career advancement opportunities is eventually going to have crippling returns on cultivating the next level of industry stalwarts.

    Recommends
    No opinion of CEO
