I have been working at Arbor Networks as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Great work life balance, everyone was very easy to talk to and willing to help you if needed. Onboarding process is pretty solid. Classes are held on different products to familiarize new hires with the various products and how they work.

    Cons

Some of the products that have been around a while have such a large code base initially working with them can be daunting.

I worked at Arbor Networks as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

I was an intern soon after the acquisition by Danaher. The engineers were great (seemed pretty satisfied), and the company culture was good too. There was obviously a bit of concern about what would happen as the company got integrated into a bigger company, but people seemed relatively encouraged by what the were seeing (ie good management, little intervention from on-high). Flexible hours and paid well, at least as an intern. The code base was well-documented and code reviews were taken seriously.

    Cons

Most new jobs seemed focused on the D rather than R in R&D, so that may be a positive or negative depending on what you're looking for. But that's probably to be expected given the maturity of the company, so it's not less R than most similar-sized or larger companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Personally I think agile development is overrated, especially for systems software. While it may be useful for people working on UI, I felt it was being pushed a bit too hard on teams for which agile methods aren't the best fit.

I have been working at Arbor Networks full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of really smart people, always willing to help
    Culture feels very startup-esque
    Good pay
    Good work-life balance
    Products make a direct impact

    Cons

Only two main engineering branch locations (though there are quite a few remote workers, too)
Not independently owned - has a parent company (Danaher)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure to keep strong hiring standards, even as recruitment needs grow. One strong employee is worth many weaker employees, in terms of work and culture for others.

I have been working at Arbor Networks full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Good work env, flexible hours
    - Employees treated with respect and all treated as adults
    - Many super smart people working on cool technology
    - Autonomy

    Cons

    - As company grows, not as much fun as it used to be
    - Danaher has made it more complex, but they are still fairly hands-off and don't seem to micromanage too much
    - Product futures sometimes uncertain.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to keep the "small company" culture as much as possible, continue to respect employees and individuals and avoid small decisions that chip away at morale and cultural identity.
