I worked at Arbour Counseling Services full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Potential growth in profession. Gained lots of experience working with families and children. Benefits were alright. This is the type of job for you if you are organized, good at scheduling, assertive, persistent, and patient. Not the typical 9-5 job but that can be beneficial to others, you create your own schedule.

    Cons

I only received an hour of training and that was towards how to use their database system. You feel like you are being thrown to the wolves when you step foot into your first client session. There is a lot of work that you put in that goes unpaid for. Traveling to client homes really sucked especially if everyone lived at least half an hour away from each other. Didn't get to really see or meet other co-workers aside from the LICSW that you go to client sessions with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs more organization. Train your bachelors level employees better.

I worked at Arbour Counseling Services

    Pros

Depending on the site (I've worked at three) you will get a very good introduction of the mental health field, and some independence in terms of treatment approach. There are some very well-run programs, but they are a for-profit company after all, so a lot of the push is to make the company money. With that said, I've had many passionate supervisors, and middle and upper management seem to stay. As a company, I think there is more satisfaction amongst employees than some of the other agencies in the Greater Boston area

    Cons

Other than direct supervisor support, there is little company recognition and a somewhat high turnover mostly due to the lack of raises (I didn't receive one in three years). Policies are somewhat all over the place, and CEO of the community services division has some major leadership flaws

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Directors and mid-level managers should have more autonomy in regards to their programs, but should also be able to clearly explain reasons for policy changes made by the higher- ups. Also, employees should get raises to reflect their effort and hard work

I have been working at Arbour Counseling Services full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours and schedule. Able to take time off when you want (once you gain enough time).

    Cons

Very little training and support. You are basically thrown in without a lot of guidance. A lot of focus on productivity and less on client care. Staff are given a ton of responsibilities and management little.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better training, more support to staff. Less focus on productivity. More support with major insurance changes which affect productivity.

    Pros

The company has a Good benefit package.

    Cons

Mediocre pay. High turnover rate. Corporate non-engagement and little acknowledgement

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show that upper management cares about their employees

    Doesn't Recommend
