Advice to Senior Management
none
Pros
During my employment with Arby's, I found most of my co-workers to be very competent, professional, and helpful. Whenever I had a question that needed answering, I could be certain of getting the answer from one of my Arby's teammates. Another plus, for me, was the employee discount.Even when I was getting the food after my shift to take home, I was given my discount! In addition, they were usually very understanding about unexpected difficulties in getting to work. As long as I called to let them know that I would be late, and would indeed be there at such and such a time, I was given no problems about my tardiness. Finally, I was obviously quite pleased to make a little bit more than minimum wage working in the fast food business!
Cons
Unfortunately, there were a couple of glaring negatives that in the end brought about my resignation from the company. I found myself growing very frustrated over time with their certification process. Frequently, less skilled, and sometimes, downright lazy employees would be given full certification-or "stars" -and pay raises over hard-working, competent employees. This was not only unfair; moreover, it was bad for morale. No one wants to work hard just to be passed over! Then there was also the issue of performance feedback. Very frequently, I would do something one way for weeks without any trouble only to be informed by an irritated manager that I was doing it completely wrong! And to make matters worse, on occasion, once I had adjusted to doing things the "new" way, a different manager would be on duty and would tell me to do it yet ANOTHER different way! I was ready to pull hair by the end of the night half the time.
Advice to Senior Management
1. Be more just in your advancement of employees. Promote the more industrious and knowledgeable before promoting the less skilled.
2. COMMUNICATE! Your employees aren't mind readers. They need to be given clear instruction regarding your wishes in order to being able to give them to you.
Pros
Free food for managers helps offset the lack of benefits for non-salary managers.
Fun, easy work in a fast paced environment, makes days go by quickly if the right crew is in place.
Flexible work schedules that are ideal for anyone going to college.
Cons
Long hours, the flexibility means that your schedule will be unpredictable.
Some not-so-subtle favoritism.
Shift managers barely make more than team members, and a team member that's been working for three or four years can make more than a newly promoted shift manager.
Insurance is offered, but I have to list it under cons due to the exorbitant price and low quality of said insurance.
Service time goals are unreasonable, it is impossible to meet speed of service standards AND quality standards without throwing out almost as much food as you make.
Rude customers, Arby's expects you to bend over backwards to please the customers no matter what they say to you.
Advice to Senior Management
I would simplify the menu. It's confusing for the customers and complicated for new team members trying to learn the job. I would suggest analyzing the cost to profit ratio for each of the menu items and eliminated those that don't perform well. This would help to control food costs thanks to a smaller variety, and would greatly help service times.
I would also suggest that they really stop worrying about service speed and focus on quality food and a clean restaurant.
Pros
It can be quite enjoyable and fun interacting with your co-workers and customers. The food is good and competitions allow you to eat free once in a while. It's one of the more laid-back fast-food restaurants to work for.
Cons
The pay is not too great; it probably aligns up with other fast-food restaurants ok, but still is quite small. From the two Arby's I've worked at, the GM's are often "in their own world."
Advice to Senior Management
Trust employees; don't abstain from criticism and observation, but don't treat workers as incompetent and ignorant. Also, keep one's word in regards to promised hourly-wage.
Pros
50 percent off food was probably the best thing they had going for them.
Cons
Pay is terrible, management needs to get on it.
Advice to Senior Management
Care more for your employees.
Pros
Able to get the days you asked off for. Reasonable shifts. Good people and enviroment to work around. Overall fun.
Cons
Pay is really low. Managment can't get along half the time. People calling out almost everyday which makes some shifts hard.
Advice to Senior Management
When the general manager and asst. manager do not like each other for no reason, it makes for a bad experience sometimes.
Pros
I'm a people person so I loved the interaction with the customers and I always remembered the regulars by names. The 50% off the food was nice.
Cons
The Manger screams and yells at you in front of customers, never allowed me to learn new jobs
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to learn how to talk to their Team Members especially older women and not yell and scream at them. I quit my job Monday because of Rob
Pros
Fast paced so it makes the day go by faster
Great People
Cons
Long hours
Must pay for food
Advice to Senior Management
You dont have to yell at everyone. Please be more flexible and clear on hours and make sure you give more training.
Pros
Easy to work for and people are great
Cons
open 7 days a week
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up treating your employees so good
Pros
Free food for managers
doesnt get boring
on your feet a lot
Basically the free food
decent pay compared to what I have heard others get paid
Cons
too many changes a menu item will be taken off, then put back on)
many items we carry are not on the menu
GM is incompetent
always short staffed
cleanliness is neglected, then expected to be crystal clear within a day
crew members and assistant manager are run ragged
crew members are not treated well by GM
too much variety (I constantly hear customers uncertain about what they want because of the wide menu selection)
Impossible to meet service time standard without wasting an exorbant amount of food, thus loosing the GM his food cost bonus
Gossip and backstabbing amongst co-workers
high turnover
Advice to Senior Management
Stick to what you do well, and lower your prices if you want to compete with your competitors. Your fast food, why would customers pay the same price for your food as they would at some diners, or sit down restaurants with better food, atmosphere, and customer service? You are constantly changing something, then changing it back just to justify your existence. Stick to what you do best and keep it simple. This is why you are losing market share to chains like Five Guys.
