I have been working at Architectural Ceramics full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Colleagues are very friendly and always open to help out even if it's out of scope of their daily job routine. Opportunities for career growth are excellent. It's family owned and I have had the privilege of working with all members. They have an outstanding family work balance. They genuinely care about their employees. They also have exceptional benefits. The value and integrity of upper management really shines through in their work. I look forward to many more years with ACI.

    Cons

    I don't have any cons.

Great people for the most part, but a bit bi-polar in the organization.

I worked at Architectural Ceramics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people for the most part are wonderful to work with and really care about what they are doing and their colleagues. The benefits were nice with the exception of the health insurance and the work environment was usually friendly and flexible. I learned a lot and absolutely grew as a professional in my time there.

    Cons

I have to echo some of the other reviews in that there is too much change with little follow through. Policies and priorities seem to shift on an hourly basis and only some people are expected to follow them while others blatantly disregard them. Males and friends of the family seem to have a much easier time getting promoted and navigating the company compared to females, which is surprising as this is woman owned. Opinions and questions are not usually welcome where upper management comes from a place of "no" and a "I'm the boss so and how dare you question my methods" attitude.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Once a policy or new agenda has been made, stick with it and see it through to make sure it works before moving on to the next big idea.

I worked at Architectural Ceramics (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you're a designer or have an eye for all things pretty - you'll be happy being surrounded by beautiful tile. Most people are friendly and you get Sundays off (it's retail, so that's pretty good for a retail business)

    Cons

It's a family driven business so naturally everyone in the higher up positions is a family member. Are they capable? that's questionable but clearly they're there to justify a steady paycheck. Benefits? are ok but if you're a soon to be mother or plan on being one in the near future you will probably have to work until the day you go into labor and you won't get a single day paid of your 3 month leave (at least they'll grant your your 90 days) Growth? unless you think of a commission job as growth then this is the place for you. Rest assured you'll be in a sales position for the rest of your life. Constant changes in policies that are rarely followed, a huge lack of communication amongst all departments, if a family member makes a mistake they will find someone to blame (this will most likely cost you your commission and you will be to blame) there is no regard for employees or their well being (taking an hour break for lunch!? are you crazy!? again, if you're family you get to go on nice daily lunches with your fam). They will switch your job description on the reg, they have been on a raise freeze for the past 3 years (at least) … the list goes on. Echoing the previous review: If you value your career, RUN!

PS. The last review was most likely written by … I'll just let you take a wild guess.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop letting unqualified family members run your business.

    Pros

Pay was decent for the tile industry. Select few people are first class individuals and working with them was a pleasure, however sad to see them caught on a sinking ship.

    Cons

Change? Every day there is a new policy or procedure that is made up, and no one follows. Large system overhauls with little to no training promote terrible morale. There is no training program, and senior management is the "family". If you want a nepotistic, childish, and downright humiliating experience, accept any job here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To the CEO: Sometimes your kids aren't the best fit for EVERY senior position. Pay attention to the market or your company will ending up making a trend out of lost revenue.

    Pros

AC is a family-owned and operated company which is great! They really care about every employee and show it through their open door policy and generous salaries. It's nice to see an upper management that works long and hard hours every week. They set a great example and it's motivating as an employee to see them put in all this time as opposed to some companies where the owner's just take big salaries with no effort.
They have the greatest selection of product of any tile store in the area! Upper management does a great job at always bringing in the new and best products from around the world.

    Cons

At AC, products and trends are always coming and going so you must be on your toes at all times. If you want a monotenous job this is not the place for you because you will always be busy!

I have been working at Architectural Ceramics

    Pros

Architectural Ceramics is always looking for ways to improve and grow, which makes it an exciting place to work. They added on a commercial sales department and dealer sales program in the last few years. They have improved process, upgraded IT, and are now working on ways to increase sales through sales-staff training and effective marketing. Since this is a small company there is opportunity to move around into each department, which is nice if you want to grow and try something new.

    Cons

Architectural in the past hadn't been consistent with giving yearly evaluations, but in the last year they have taken this seriously and have done performance reviews with everyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue developing, training, and providing feedback to staff. Continue to think outside the box and make Architectural Ceramics a company unlike other tile companies.

    Pros

Family atmosphere so you make friends. The selection for clients is fabulous!

    Cons

The managers are not trained to manage people. They do not give raises nor do they do any reviews. The only feedback they give is negative. The morale of the office is horrible. Everyone is negative and contributing to that is upper management. There are certain people in upper managment that have had virtually NO experience running a compamy yet they have C suite titles and salaries to match. It's us vs. them when it should be a team. Some of the processes and technology are antiquated. People are moved around alot they lost some key players in the last few years so that should tell you something. One other thing to note is that everyone has to clock-in which equals distrust and the employees feel like they are children. I would not recommend working here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give timely reviews; stop moving people around; give store mangers more control over their personnel. Don't put people with little experience or education in charge of very large things.

    I worked at Architectural Ceramics

    Pros

    Small company environment
products are on the cutting edge of industry

    Cons

Family run can be difficult. When the company grew the owners at first were not ready to make the changes needed. Many times they woudl hold meeting gather information then never follow through. They kept employees that were hurting company instead of cutting them loose sooner because everyone was "family" I was always treated great but that is because I did my job well and was one of the top performers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow through with plans. Listen tot eh managers in the field, they sometimes know better as things in this world change.
