I worked at Arctic Cat full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Fun work, people are nice

    Cons

Pay is very low, no chance of moving up. Engineers will sit at the same desk for 20 years collecting a 2.3% pay increase annually. All the good engineers will leave within 3 years for a higher paying job.

    Advice to Management

The pay and benefits need to match the industry standard. I understand it is a "privilege" to work for the company but that will only last so long. This was my dream job but leaving the company was the best career move I ever made.

I worked at Arctic Cat full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

passionate people who put everything they have into it. New management that can hopefully invest in the future of the company. fun product to sell.

    Cons

Need more processes to control quality. IT systems lag behind the industry Dealer base unhappy with the ordering process and in general doing business with company

    Advice to Management

Be careful not to overpromise and under deliver both to employees and to dealers. Trust needs to be built and any deviations that undermine trust will be a disaster.

I have been working at Arctic Cat full-time

    Pros

Arctic Cat is a small company in it's industry, so it is possible to make an impact from almost any role. The company has tons of growth potential and there will be opportunities to advance a career if management can meet their growth targets and you bring your "A' game.

    Cons

Most of the people who have been there 20+ years would be considered completely incompetent at any other company in the industry. They have known only Arctic Cat and their antiquated ways of doing things. They also don't command the respect of their employees. There are quite a few people who are basically dead weight and should fired. Benefits are OK, pay is low, The HR department is a joke.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your people (not just pay either, training and education would help everyone!), everything you and the shareholders want will ultimately be delivered by them. Do some house cleaning in mid-management. Many of them don't command any respect from their employees (rightly so) and are completely clueless on how to change that.

I have been working at Arctic Cat full-time

    Pros

Small company in the industry means room for advancement. If you can demonstrate your abilities, you will advance.. Strong core of employees who have been with the company for decades and know what it takes to make a great snowmobile or atv. Many brand loyal customers who love the product and wouldn't ride anything else.

    Cons

Average benefits, below average salaries and wages. Aged facility that badly needs a renovation and updated equipment. Management located hundreds of miles from the main operation and seem more concerned with the bottom line than growing the business.

    Advice to Management

Set goals for realistic growth and stick to them. Take some risk with cash on hand by introducing new products before the competition instead of lining your pockets. Return the brand to what it once was in the industry with great, quality products.

    Pros

Very laid back working environment, people are usually willing to help.

    Cons

Low pay, once you have experience you don't have much of a choice but to move on. After getting in a few years you can switch to just about any other company in your same position and earn an extra 20-30%

    Advice to Management

Try to retain more talent rather than paying low salaries that force employees to look elsewhere.

I worked at Arctic Cat full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked for a 3PL that did dedicated service for Arctic Cat. They are a pretty easy-going bunch. They aren't too demanding or whiny like a certain competitor of theirs.

    Cons

As a warehouse supervisor for their main ,service, my biggest complaint is that they are an incredibly sloppy and wasteful company. Some of the other previous reviews have touched on that as well. This problem is one of their biggest obstacles to success. They used the service in part to manage their inventory. It was near impossible to reach any acceptable level of accuracy at our facility because they wouldn't do it at their own. They would send over load after load of their inventory for us to cycle count. They're manifests were NEVER right. They basically cleared their whole warehouse in Thief River to have us count it. On top of that, they wanted it all back. Sometime they sent things to us only to ask for it back, oftentimes before it even arrived at our building. There were parts in transit from their site to ours and they needed those parts for that days production. They have the worst organization there. Their material planners are inept. Everything was needed right away. They often needed new orders before we even got them. They kept ALL their left over parts. I'm not taking just engine and subassemblies. They also held onto O-rings and bushings and little foil strips for example. They paid money to transport, warehouse, cycle count, handle and transport again. They lost money on these things. In a nutshell- sloppy and wasteful. That place was a nightmare.

    Advice to Management

When the government subsidies and TARP benefits you receive dry up, your company will go into bankruptcy...AGAIN. Hopefully for that last time. You don't deserve to stay in business.
