Poorly managed neuroscience in vivo group

    Scientist (Former Employee)
    San Diego, CA

ProsThe best benefits of any company in the San Diego area. A few nice people to work with who know what needs to be done.

ConsThe management and project teams did not move projects forward in a timely manner. There was a deplorable lack of decision making that kept everyone waiting for work to be done. The associates and a handful of key (i.e. popular) lab heads operated at a low capacity but were falsely regarded highly by upper management. As a result of the lack of interest in their career development, associates became uninterested and lacked motivation. In the end, the work environment became depressing and unbearable. Any individual with skill or talent slowly left the company for better opportunities.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Great place to work, good work/life balance.

    Scientist (Former Employee)

ProsOpportunities for scientists to be creative, which is often rare in industry.

ConsThe usual precarious job security common with startups.

Advice to Senior ManagementFull steam ahead.

Good learning experience, no room for growth.

    Senior Research Associate (Former Employee)
    San Diego, CA

ProsGood employee stock purchase plan. There used to be a lot of great team building, offsite events. Benefits were above average.

ConsLow pay and too many cutbacks on benefits. The amount of work was not consistent. Long meetings with no decisions being made.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more involved with your employees.

Good company to work for but a lot of corporate politics

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    San Diego, CA

ProsFlexible company. You are able to balance family and work well. Benefits are good. Stock options are ok. Since it is a smaller company you get to know and interact with many people including the CEO. You are not pigeonholed into one job function and are able try new things. This will greatly expand your resume. There IT department is Fantastic!

ConsCorporate Politics. There is just too much of it. Check out this book "Games at your work". Upper management does what they want and do not take your opinion into account (they try to make it look like your opinion counts but it doesn't). Project prioritization is poor, constantly shifting.
    Low salary. Raises are poor.

Advice to Senior ManagementWe are all trying to achieve the same goal. Don't compete to see who can do it better or faster. Rather, work together and communicate information it will avoid duplicated work.
