Pros
The best people that I have ever worked with and for.
Cons
Very little opportunity for advancement.
Advice to Senior Management
Please look at those who are knowledgable and want to advance their career from within.
Pros
Covered parking and comfortable desk chairs
Cons
Management team and Board lack ethics
Advice to Senior Management
Repent
Pros
Compensation and bonus was OK.
Cons
Leadership is horrible. Spoiled brat runs the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Get a new CEO soon.
Pros
Good benefits, pretty nice facilities.
Cons
Argo is nothing more than a financial playground for the Executives. The company cannot afford bonuses or cost of living increases for the employees, but they can afford a private jet? With only a few exceptions, the Executives at Argo treat the employees like lesser human beings. It's also worth mentioning that that same Executive team is primarily made up of a bunch of old buddies, college frat brothers, and prep school pals. I was in Management at Argo, so I got to see the dark side of the organization first hand.
Advice to Senior Management
The Board of Directors and shareholders should really take a serious look at how their money is being used.
Pros
There ate some nice people who work for this company. Educational support is also good.
Cons
Promotions are not given based on job performance. Bullying goes on unpunished.
Advice to Senior Management
Start looking at who produces and reward them accordingly.
Pros
A pretty stable place to work. Nice people. Easy to talk to and generally are willing to help you. Good 401k matching.
Cons
No direction for the future. Too much red tape and "culture" is pretty much non-existent. There are no incentives to do better. People just show up everyday and go through the motions.
Advice to Senior Management
Eliminate the stale managers and learn to have fun. Get some new people in the door with fresh ideas and learn to be innovative. People spend too much of their lives at work to not enjoy it.
Pros
Very flexible and good people
Cons
sometimes business slows down a bit.
Advice to Senior Management
this is a different argo group
Pros
They are a growing company.
Cons
They do not promote from within. Almost every management position in the last 3 years have gone to outside personnel, transfers between departments is rarely if ever done. Micromanagement on every issue from top to bottom. Severe under staffing. Implements new procedures without input from staff that will have to utilize new programs to assist in determining if the new program will work or be of benefit. Making promises to new policyholders without determining if the department responsible can realistically complete the work promised. Better to tell the truth than make commitments that cannot later be kept due to under staffing, lack of necessary technology etc.
Advice to Senior Management
Get feedback and input from staff. Encourage continuing education as promoted in the company manual but usually is declined by local management. Training for new staff - none - need to be more pro-active and not reactive to possible problems and legitimate concerns in procedures. Pat on the back on occasion for employees who excel and work 60-70 hours a week for no additional pay to keep promises management has made. Instead of just the " no one asked you too" normal response from middle management.
Pros
Small company with some potential but little management focus
Cons
Management talent is very spotty
Advice to Senior Management
Hire better middle managers
