Argus Cheats You With Misleading Job Description and then Beats the Soul out of you

Analyst - Client Delivery (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

Pros1. Above average salary in this economy (not nearly worth it for this hell)
    2. Near New York City
    3. Good colleague camaraderie (at the analyst level mind you, because you are all SUFFERING)
    4. bagels and donuts on Friday, i guess

Cons1. They recruit from top schools for client delivery and lie to prospects by claiming you get to do consulting, learn about the CC space...well you don't. This is a programming job where you crunch SQL code all day long without learning what any of it means. No consulting. Not even gaining an understanding of the credit card space let alone basic consulting. It's like the movie Momento, DON'T BELIEVE THEIR LIES.

    2. Everyone at Argus is disgruntled. Over the last 5 years something like 125 employees have left (this is not hyperbole). This place beats out all the i-banks as a shitty place to work.

    3. Managers here are incompetent, selfish, and manipulative. They don't care about the professional growth of analysts and beat the living soul out of them. I personally witnessed one good manager, so you are playing a game of Russian roulette here.

    4. They tell you that you are not expected to know SQL coming in. But you basically are. If you are not a whiz in SQL, expect hell and I promise that 6 months in you will either by searching for new jobs or if you are lucky enough not to be a foreign worker you will quit.

    5. Aside from the terrible work conditions (ok, you might say, so every job is a grind, this is life) the point is that YOU DON'T LEARN ANYTHING RELEVANT TO WHAT YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN WHICH I MIGHT GUESS IS FINANCE AND CONSULTING. For good sakes, the world is a big place, don't take their offer.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo the world a favor and LBO this company so it can be liquified. Otherwise, stop recruiting from top schools and claiming that Client Delivery is consulting. That's just plain cruel.

Hectic work. No personal life at all

    Analyst (Former Employee)
    White Plains, NY

ProsGrowth opportunities exist because turnover is high

ConsLong working hours - 10hours a day to 11 hours easily during week days. U have to work in weekends too.

Advice to Senior ManagementNo one can work for this long hours on a long term basis. that is why everybody leaves in a year .

    Vice President (Current Employee)
    White Plains, NY

ProsYou will get an opportunity to work with some of he smartest and best professionals on challenging assignments for the world leading financial institutions. Strong differientiated product offering with real growth and opportunities.

ConsIt is important that you are highly motivated. Those with strong communications skills and strong analytical skills will do better. Those without can get lost in the organization.

Fairly successful experience with significant learning including definitely some forgettable incidents

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    White Plains, NY

ProsIf you survive this fast paced company, you get equipped with significant credit card industry knowledge.
I have met some great people (brilliant minds) at this company.
I have seen enormous improvements in the HR group and they seem to genuinely care about employees

    ConsUtter lack of people management skills with no sustainable plan to retain talent;
    Brilliant minds are accompanied with no project management skills;
HR is not supported enough by the senior management to make a real difference in solving the actual problems

Advice to Senior ManagementChange the culture to actually respect and care about people; Please incorporate some much-need project management flavor, though to a practical and limited extent

Lots of opportunity because everyone leaves

    (Current Employee)
    White Plains, NY

    Pros-Fast environment
-Lots of exposure to high-level and mid-level executives
-Lots of opportunity to move up quickly since most people don't stay for very long

Cons-Upper management has a hard time connecting with staff
-Huge representational risks since not all relevant problems are communicated
-HR department is clueless and is not an advocate for the employee
-High turn over so you have a lot of young managers that are only experienced with Argus. Managers have very little experience in managing/growing people
-Expect to work min of 50+ hr weeks
-Management is interested in growing the company as fast as it can in order to sell the company off and cash out

Good "Only" if you want to be in the Credit Card Industry. IF you don't, then just avoid it like the plague

    Senior Analyst (Former Employee)
    White Plains, NY

ProsIf you are smart and get the job done, you get promoted
You learn a lot about the Credit Card industry
    Company supports H1B visa
Generally smart/hard working people at entry/mid level

ConsWork hours are terrible. You are treated like a commodity, you will be pushed to the max. Expected to work on weekends and until 3 am on weekdays. Having a family does not make senior management lenient about this requirement.

If you don't want to work in the CC industry for the rest of your life DO NOT JOIN this company as the skills you will pick up are very hard to transfer. What is called "Consulting" is actually data supply, you will not be doing any "serious analysis". You will learn about general trends which could help you succeed in an interview with other credit card issuers.

If you are a US citizen, just dont join this company (unless you really want to be in the CC industry and have been rejected by Amex, BofA and the rest....)
If you are on a student visa, dont join unless it is your only option....

P.S. All this review is for Client delivery and Consulting part of the company not the systems/developpers jobs

Advice to Senior Managementthere has been an average of 50% of turnovers in the past 4 years....i am sure they know what needs to be done.....

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsIntense and meritocratic. An opportunity to learn consumer banking and high end quantitative analysis.

ConsOne or two bad apples make it hard for everyone.

Advice to Senior ManagementPut greater emphasis on employee empowerment. Get rid of the bad apples.
