    I worked at Ariba full-time

    Pros

Salary, I think! Recently SAP Policies - mostly good. Office Shuttles. Some get lucky to work in the cloud area on new technologies.

    Cons

Unless you are in happening project, nothing really to learn or improve on, especially for a senior role. Not sure if other teams felt the same issue but couple of teams' management had poor culture of treating employees as just resources. It is all about bug fix count. Hopefully SAP culture seeps in faster.

    I worked at Ariba full-time

    Pros

Great people and overall positive environment. If you're willing to learn and put in 1 - 2 years you can grow with the company. Acquisition with SAP opens up many doors for networking and growth.

    Cons

You are tied to your desk i.e. phone/email for your shift. There are set shifts. For example each week you will rotate 8-5, 9-6, 10-7pm, 11am-8pm. This is typical with the customer support world. Expect to have an hour lunch and be back, logged in the minute before you hour is up.

    Advice to Management

They do a good job and try to work with you but the vibe is a high school meets professional world. Leads and management run around to meetings and the team busts their bums. Not to say management isn't working hard but there is a slight them vs us vibe to the floor.

    Pros

Great experience and a good foundation to start with and learn a large amount of Sourcing and Procurement information to further your career.

    Cons

Need to work harder to get noticed. Hard to get into other departments. If you are not immersed in the corporate culture you will not be promoted.l

    Advice to Management

Please start a more comprehensive career plan for current employees. Start to become more immersed in the day to day operations of the specialists and make sure that they have all of the resources that they need.

I worked at Ariba full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

As long as you are doing what is asked everything is OK. Free food and beer Friday.

    Cons

More focus on Leadership. Leaders and managers get promoted in the middle of the year but engineers are told that budget is short. Very Leadership driven company. 20 % of engineering staff has already left. Only people who are here for a long time stay as they are acclimated to the environment.

    Advice to Management

Please have some empathy towards the engineering.

    Pros

Decent pay. Less variable component. Product company culture. Experienced team.

    Cons

Less internal mobility. Slow growth rate. Overload at times. Not quality amneties.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees concerns and issues. The steering committee never seem to be in sync with common employees.

I have been working at Ariba full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Reverse engineer and learn from code developed by brilliant engineers.

    Cons

Legacy code. When Ariba started, they had high end engineers move from Apple. In the late 90's and early 2000, they created a lot of the things we take for granted today. The OR mapping layer is brilliant. Same with the UI rendering engine AribaWeb. The management has been reducing staff. This means that there is a lot of legacy code that hasn't been maintained. Trying to debug that is a nightmare, you try to problem 1 and create three more problems.

    Advice to Management

    Need more engineers.
