    Pros

Reverse engineer and learn from code developed by brilliant engineers.

    Cons

Legacy code. When Ariba started, they had high end engineers move from Apple. In the late 90's and early 2000, they created a lot of the things we take for granted today. The OR mapping layer is brilliant. Same with the UI rendering engine AribaWeb.

The management has been reducing staff. This means that there is a lot of legacy code that hasn't been maintained. Trying to debug that is a nightmare, you try to problem 1 and create three more problems.

    Advice to Management

    Need more engineers.

    Pros

    - Good benefits
    - Flexible schedule
    - Some great co-workers and smart employees willing to help
    - Opportunity to learn a lot about software technology (ERP and SaaS)
    - A few good managers who actually get in the trenches with you, provide on-going training and development, and show a genuine interest in helping team members advance
    - Made some life long friends with some truly caring people with good hearts.

    Cons

    - A lot of management play favorites and senior leadership ignores this even though it is obvious to everyone that it goes on, especially in certain departments.
    - Promotions and career advancement are stalled/blocked by upper management and HR.
    - Sense of management not caring when you bring issues to them and give you a feeling that you are on your own to fight your battles.
    - Upper management is aware of cheating going on with certain individuals/teams but turn a blind eye because they want to make their monthly and quarterly numbers and bonuses.
    - Company does not take care of employees, lets them get frustrated and unwilling to fix internal issues.
    - Management gets bogged down in metrics and micro-managing.
    - God forbid you ever ask a question to a senior manager or executive that is deemed 'tough' or makes them feel uncomfortable when they ask for questions on a conference call or in a meeting. Senior leadership only want to hear positive feedback and accolades of how great they are doing.

    Advice to Management

    - Take care of your employees who have consistently worked hard and performed at the top.
    - Don't let your upper management frustrate your good employees to the point of them wanting to leave.
    - Nip the favoritism that some directors and vice presidents have been allowed to practice.
    - Communicate better with your employees.
    - Invest in your employees and help them achieve their goals.
    - Get rid of the old management style of "top down" mentality. Create a more open and collaborative atmosphere that would be more conducive to productivity and employee satisfaction.

    Pros

There was always a worry about lay offs, may have changed now since it is an SAP company.

    Pros

    - Good pay when coming from another company
    - Nice benefits, including free lunch on Wednesday, beer on Friday, and near European-style maternity/paternity leave
    - Lots of opportunity for growth & advancement
    - Fast-paced environment - never a shortage of work that needs to be done

    Cons

    - Weak merit increases (though at least they have them) and pay bumps when changing positions internally
    - Rampant nepotism/favoritism in Customer Support
    - Performance goals for different teams are in direct opposition to each other (very little "for the customer" mentality despite management's insistence)

    Advice to Management

Are we trying to do what's best for the customer or what's best for SAP and the Sales team's commissions? You can't ask everyone to work together but at the same time have everyone's bonus goals in direct opposition to each other.

    Pros

Vacation days, sick time, beer Fridays, free lunch Wednesdays.
I like my coworkers for the most part.

    Cons

The workload is highly unmanageable. I realize that certain quarters are busier than others, however we are constantly short staffed and are currently in a hiring freeze, while the network ramps up and we have more work to do than ever. So i guess a plus from this is job security, but personally, it has been at the expense of my health and well being. My stress level has been through the roof.

There is really no training, you are just thrown in with the sharks. Most people in my department (billing-collections) are too busy to train. Some people here literally do the bare minimum all day and my department is working non-stop for 45+ hours/week.

The pay is pretty good but for the amount of work and responsibilities, I honestly would expect more.

If you want to move up in your career here , you have to get on someone's good side and stay there. Good luck doing that when you are drowning in work.

    Advice to Management

Talk to your teams. Take employee feedback and put it to good use when evaluating your departments.
