I have been working at Ariba

    Pros

As an engineer, one can work on stuff that has a big impact on the world of b2b commerce. Big customers and high volume cloud commerce site. There is pressure no doubt, but high rewards for successful folks too.

    Cons

Building and operating a 24x7 cloud commerce site can come with its share of challenges and pressures. Distributed offices across the united states and now in many other parts of the world (thanks to the various acquisitions) makes collaboration harder.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need more tools and processes to help with collaboration between different offices. Also - more training for new engineers would help them get effective sooner

I worked at Ariba as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Good energy; employees enjoy working and having fun together; fine facility

    Cons

Creeping SAPism that might restrict the freedom of Aribians to run things with the
nimbleness and speed required in Silicon Valley.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do your best to maintain autonomy and avoid being straight-jacketed by creeping rules and regulations from SAP

I have been working at Ariba

    Pros

The company is in a great place to capitalize on it's position in the industry as the market rebounds. But aside from the company position, it's an employer that does a great job of giving flexibility, work/life balance and good compensation.

    Cons

Communication across the multiple cities and departments could be better. And sometimes it feels as though we can't decide if we are a big or small company, the danger being we'll slip into the bad characteristics of each.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We need more open access and communication with senior leaders and decision makers. The company is not so large that we shouldn't have good, fast, open communication across teams, departments, vertical titles and locations.

    Cons

    Quality issues have plagued Ariba

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to make the org good for an average employee. Not all employees are willing to be pushed to their limits.
