Pros
- Great culture
- Best minds to work with
Cons
- Need to be daring to venture in to new horizons
Advice to Senior Management
Dare to dream beyond telecom
Pros
no network security
you can take exception in each and every process.
Cons
bad incentive policy
bad travel policy
policies are not equal for all
inactive HR
no power in HR hand
process are just for formalities
Advice to Senior Management
management???? there is no management. there has been 3-4 restructuring happened in last 2-3 years....they are still not able to decide who n how the business will run!!
Pros
Flexi timings. no formals required. Can't remember any other good experience to which aricent has contributed. overall it's a bad experience
Cons
managers do not hesitate to play with people's carrier. in some business units, people are moved around testing and development teams. Some times they are even asked to do work of an operational engineer.
People responsible for initiating the new projects (STL and above) are highly incompetent. they are old timers who worked once on C and never explore other technologies when a project comes (C++ is untouchable in large part of the organization, most of them have not heard of design patterns)
no respect for employees. transport department of admin is more corrupt than a government organization. bus service is run at employee cost and employees are constantly threatened that bus service will be stopped. employees feels that aricent is serving to its vendors rather than to its customers.
Advice to Senior Management
try to diversify in areas other than telecom. improve compensation. try to show some respect for employees. For particularly sudip nandy: commenting on yammer that aricent is company without caste but not without class do not help. What class we are talking about if employees have to face constant humiliation and red tapism in IT results in the frustation of our customers. If you ever get time, do look into the accounts of transport dept.
Pros
-Good Place to make a career start
-Good set of technologies, most work in C and Unix, VxWorks, Real Time Operating Systems
Cons
-Majority of people are looking to shift into management positions as it is viewed as a cushy job with no resposibility
-Most managers view their job as purely managerial and tend to shy away from any sort of technical work which is sad
-Previously used to be a company which took niche projects but now is going for any project which increases profits
-Growth/promotions based on time spent in Aricent and not on the basis of contribution or quality of work
Advice to Senior Management
-Position of manager is a specialized position and not everyone should be made a manager, people who should be considered for a managers position should be extremely ethical, should be extremely technically sound so as to give correct effort estimates, review work done by subordinates, distinguish between actual quality and quick fix solutions. Currently anyone who seems to have covered the tenure and who seems to show lack of interest in technical aspect of work is being made a manager
Pros
A number of technologies to work with.
Nice environment.
Cons
Promotions are time based rather than performance based.
Support services (like pantry, cafeteria etc.) are very poor.
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of politics and work toward employees' growth.
Pros
Get to learn the latest technologies.
Good for c/c++.
High customer focus
Cons
No work life balance ,there is too much work pressure.
No weekends
Bad paymaster ,poor growth
Some managers are very annoying.
Advice to Senior Management
Give some opportunities to freshers.
Must enforce 1-on-1 meetings between employee (all levels) and line supervisor.
Managers should be well mannered .
Minimum/Adequate transparency should be maintained at all levels
Pros
Flexible working time
Comparable pay
Many exceptionally good people to work with.
Quite good library and recreational facilities, they have one building with library, GYM, cafeteria etc.
Cons
Office location is not good, traffic jams around office is regular.
Too much politics, you have to be loud for your presence to be felt. Golden rule is do 60% of work but advertise 100%.
Not good work if you are a freshers, you would end up doing doc or excel related work. Or work which no one else wants to do.
No work from home, only for managers and above and in some groups only.
No effort is put on making things optimized, managers just want it to run. so just forget all optimization etc and just make the thing work.
Growth is BU dependent and so are the salary. If your BU is in profit you get good hike.
Advice to Senior Management
Give more quality work at the fresher level.
More fairness in promotion and hikes.
Pros
Flexibility in terms of when u come and go to the office, clean and good promotion philosophy.
Cons
It is not same as when it was hughes. It is more becoming a regular services company with average salary hikes and cost cutting in place everywhere.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to work on employee satisfaction more
Pros
we can learn lot technically
decent growth opportunities
Cons
bad management is encouraged
lot of internal politics
ever changing management
Advice to Senior Management
resign as your predecessors did...
Pros
1. Freedom
2. Better Salary than many famous Indian Companies
3. Good projects and good exposure to latest technologies
Cons
1. Senior members will always get first opportunity irrespective of their talents.
2. Promotion is defined by the number of years u spend in the company.
3. Variation in pay among employees of same experience.
Advice to Senior Management
Performances are recognized at the right time. However only experience in the company defines your growth. This perception should be changed.
