Cons
Opportunities for career advancements at ASU is great, the pay scale is at the lower end. Furthermore you have to pay for parking.
Advice to Senior Management
Leadership at Arizona State university lacks upper management support. Fail to communicate with employees regarding upper management decisions needs to be worked on.
Pros
Great weather during the winter and spring months. There are lot of opportunities to build your resume throughout the year and around the city. Many company's bring promotions and conferences to the phoenix valley in order to promote their work and company.
Cons
The university is badly understaffed. The level of experience and education being received needs to be improved with more funding for departments as well as an addition to the number of professors. Department are no longer able to provide labs for their classes and education level is being reduced with the employment of teacher's assistants as apposed to professors.

Pros
If you are passionate about higher education and want to work with amazing students, faculty, and staff from around the world, a career at ASU will be perfect for you. Expect a strong school spirit environment and involvement at all levels of the university.
Cons
Although there are many opportunities for career advancements at ASU, the pay scale is at the lower end of the spectrum.
Pros
Very interesting research. Knowledgeable management. Very friendly and helpful atmosphere. You can generally make your own work schedule if you are present when agreed upon.
Cons
Workload tends to be very significant. Pay is typical to low for the industry. Directions from management can be unclear at times.
Advice to Senior Management
Higher pay would make this workplace more compelling. Offer a clearer and more organized set of instructions for projects and procedures.
Pros
Important organization that serves arizona.
generally offers flexible schedules.
Lots of opportunity to move around the organization.
Sense of community among staff.
Visionary president sets a clear mission and vision for the university.
Cons
Internal politics can be extreme.
Limited budget causes a strain on resources and staff.
Salary growth has been non-existent for the past four years due to the state budget.
Pros
Offers opportunity to work with professors and students with a wide range of interests. Excellent environment to work without the burdens of a rigid corporate culture.
Cons
Limited growth and promotion opportunities in funded grant world. Most research positions are soft money and based on limited time grants. This results in less job security than at a corporation.
Advice to Senior Management
The lack of job security for funded grants makes it difficult to attract talented professional staff. Coordination of various research efforts might allow a matrix organization to develop, which would reduce these job security concerns. Lower than average salaries is also makes it challenging to retain staff.
Pros
Great town (Tempe) located near a great city (Phoenix) with great weather. So many very different things to do within a day's drive. Cost of living is low, and ASU has a great relaxed atmosphere that takes care of their employees.
Cons
Working for any university has a con in that they have less money than industry employers. Summers can be very hot, and ASU is a HUGE university which makes things a little difficult to get done.
Advice to Senior Management
Finding a way to minimize the procedure involved in every little project request would be nice. It's just such a big university, that things can get very impersonal sometimes.
Pros
Low pay but good benefits. Many talented staff. Great students.
Cons
Current leadership of MBA administration has destroyed a once productive and enthusiastic recruiting team. Sad. Absolutely no opportunities for career growth, and jobs continually in jeopardy.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the people on the front line. Treat them with respect and consider their opinions and futures in decision-making.
Pros
Pros - Lax dress code, good people working with you usually, and it's not a terrible job. Sure, we have our busy moments, but all in all, it's not that stressful for 7 months out of the year. You also get to meet pretty important people like Lucy Hawking (Stephen Hawking's daughter). Also, in my specific position, I have a fair amount of autonomy to get things done how I want and when I can.
Cons
I know Arizona is in a budget crisis, but downsizing the workforce and then expecting everyone else to pick up the slack without any type of raise is horrible. For the last 4 years, we haven't even received cost of living increases. My area of support used to have 26 people taking care of over 10,000 machines. Now, we have 8. For 4 years, I have maintained the only perfect customer rating in our group with one person, me. I don't know if I can continue providing excellent support for no salary increases or even opportunities to move up the food chain. Lately, the level of work has shot through the roof and I can't keep up - even when informing management of the problems I face.
Advice to Senior Management
Reward faithful employees with salary increases. Find a way to either hire more people (like student workers) or decrease our SLA with departments. Right now, hitting the 24 hour timeframe is nearly impossible.
Pros
Great benefits if you are full time
Great training opp.
Co workers have great attitudes
Cons
Some research Coordinators have zero common sense, leadership abilities and are clueless about anything happening away from their computers.
Advice to Senior Management
If you are going to lead community based research, leave the office once in a while so you know how to obtain the data you are seeking and can give useful advice to subordinates
