the children are great...but other areas are lacking

Hospital Child Care (Current Employee)
Little Rock, AR

I have been working at Arkansas Children's Hospital full-time

ProsHelping make a difference in children's lives
Decent wages and benefits
free parking
campus shuttle
Stable schedules

Conshospital and campus layout is confusing and forever changing
there is a waiting list to get your child in the on campus daycare
daycare is only available during day shifts and not night shifts
the daycare is disorganized..and children are changing classes constantly from room to room. They might stay with one teacher for only 3 months then move to another room.
Their playground equipment at the daycare is not stimulating enough and there is not enough toys for all the children.

This is an excellent place to work, especially if you are a programmer. I worked there for 3 years.

Programmer III (Former Employee)

I worked at Arkansas Children's Hospital full-time for more than 3 years

ProsFun place to work. Cafeteria has excellent food. Awesome mission. Friendly people!

ConsSalary is not as competitive as they say it is for non-nursing positions. If money is what you're after, you will want to try a for-profit. Raises are virtually non-existent.

Advice to Senior ManagementMarket Adjustment for I.T. staff should happen.

kids are awesome, admin is less than impressive.

Patient Information Assistant (Current Employee)
Little Rock, AR

I have been working at Arkansas Children's Hospital

ProsGreat families. The patients make you want to come back every day. There are great benefits to working at ACH, reimbursement of tuition, insurance, employee assistance programs and fun activites. My personal director and upper level administrators are wonderful. They help in a pinch, are willing to listen to ideas and issues, and make the clinic a great place to work, but my clinic is the exception to the rule.

ConsThe senior managment, nursing supervisors, vp's and above, at ACH are difficult to work with. They insulate themselves from any changes, and require the nurses and other team members bear the brunt of their decisions. Other unit and clinic directors are un-willing to help, and tend to lead from behind a desk. If you do have problems, the open door policy they claim is very threatening. They are not always clear in their expectations. Prepare to be on the defensive most of the time.

Advice to Senior ManagementShare the burden with your employees, transparency of policy also means do not be vague, better paying jobs

Great opprotunity with room to grow

Admissions Counsleor (Current Employee)

I have been working at Arkansas Children's Hospital

ProsI like working at Children's because it is a great place to start a career. The benefits package is very nice and my supervisor is very accomodating with time off requests, etc. I work in a small department and my coworker and I have the ability to work freely as needed.

ConsOne of the only downsides to working here is the inclement weather policy. When the weather is bad, snow, ice or a combination, essentail employees are still required to be at work.
