I worked at Arlington Heights School District full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. Good bennies, decent pay. 2. The kids are generally well behaved.

    Cons

    1. Many administrators reflect the Peter Principal--they have reached the level of their incompetence. 2. General lack of professionalism among some administration and staff. Too many students and new staff members are quickly classified as wonderful or horrible ("that kid will be in prison in 10 years").

    Advice to Management

Clean up your act. The culture can be poisonous, especially for new staff and students. Do some due diligence on claims by your favorites instead of believing their ad hoc reports.

  3. It has been a relatively pleasant experience.

    Recommends

    Pros

The pay is competitive for this type of position. For the most part, children are well-parented, so behavior is not usually a problem.

    Cons

There is a limit to the number of days a substitute can work in the same district, so salary is limited.
