I have been working at Arriva full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The pay isn't too bad, love the banter at work, at a point in the company where I am being acknowledged for my communication skills and and work with the community so am getting extra opportunities as a result. Also have two NVQ's which the company supported.

    Cons

Mostly the shift patterns, would not have been able to manage had my children been young, the hours can be long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember we have lives and families outside of work.

I worked at Arriva full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great company, professionally run, world class driving training. Strong emphasis on meeting targets for routes.

    Cons

As a driver you are expected to take reponsibility for a lot more than just driving. Sometimes the drive to meet route targets can push safety considerations and provide a stressful time for drivers who seem to be always the ones who are wrong when in fact on many occassions they are right.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treatment of drivers should be more equitable. Controllers of routes desperately need people management skills and an understanding of how important the customer is.

I have been working at Arriva full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

meeting different members of the public, job security, love driving. being out and about rather then stuck in doors.

    Cons

have no social life. find it hard to balance work life and family life. feel you dont have much support from management, you are just a number to them. no job safety (meaning you are left on your own, if you encounter someone violent there are no inspectors about in the evening to help you out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

think should get more benefits when working weekends and bank holidays. would like to be appriciated more. would like more training so if wish to pursue into management would have neccesary experience for the role.

    Pros

    Management leads by example

    Cons

    Not a lot of training
In the UK there is meritocracy, in other countries not at all

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of some useless senior managers who are only interested in the title and their position and sponsoring their friends rather than really focusing on what the right thing for the company is
