Pros
Open collaborative environment
Genuinely nice and sharp people to work with
Cutting edge technology
Profitable quarter after quarter - company has money and is willing to invest
Cons
Lack of coordination amongst departments
At times a bit of an 'us and them' mentality developed between the software development team and the rest of the company
Advice to Senior Management
Set product direction and drive more quickly
Pros
Great benefits and very techie environment; creative thinkers.
Cons
Location could be better (downtown Boston, as opposed to Cambridge Redline)
Advice to Senior Management
Keep it up!
Pros
Vacation, sick and holidays are excellent. An overall positive outlook throughout the company, not always doom and gloom as some might find in other companies. Very fair compensation, in my opinion.
Cons
Its getting bought by Oracle. Job Titles don't always represent responsibilities and/or skill level. Some of the technologies in OS are disparate and not quite merged together as I would hope.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't Sell!
Pros
Smart, nice, competent coworkers
Excellent benefits package
Very well intentioned managers for the most part
Very competitive salary range
Great office locations and facilities
Cons
Inconsistent feedback about performance
Smaller company means limited career paths
Advice to Senior Management
Better recognition of individual employee performance
Pros
Good benefits, really smart people. Fond of innovation. Many people who leave here return after testing the waters.
Cons
Not a huge company so limited room for advancement. Seems like company should be bigger than it is sometimes, given how good the technology is.
Advice to Senior Management
Sometimes I think we take innovation for granted. I'd like to see us get back to innovating some great new products to stay ahead of the curve.
Pros
good place to work. Good innovative environment, play hard-work hard Great technology, leader in the space.
Cons
commission structure is lower than others in the software industry. Difficult to remain the leader, many staff have been at the company for a long time. Young marketing group.
Advice to Senior Management
more development is needed to improve integration of products, ease of implementation, and gain a larger partner base.
Pros
Ability to work remotely if necessary.
Good coworkers/management that provide support if needed.
Willing to hire fresh, entry level employees.
Cons
Small chance of professional advancement within the company.
No pay increase/raises.
Bad knowledge transfer between departments.
Potential to be overworked.
Advice to Senior Management
Biggest problem is the lack of reasonable pay increase for lower-tier employees (I cant speak for upper management). Multiple years of dedicated service to the company MIGHT get you a pathetic 2% increase, but i can think of few years where even this was withheld. Also, spend some money and train your employees more thoroughly. I can understand you not wanting to bring people to Cambridge every week, but at least have regular training via teleconference.
Pros
The products are good and widely used, albeit complex.
Competitive pay.
Nice benefits.
People are generally helpful and have a nice attitude.
Professional services management is getting better
Cons
Professional Services are a little separated from sales and the rest of the company, often have to clean up the mess caused due to lack of communication between internal organizations
Management somewhat disorganized, all processes are not in place.
New Professional Services employee training and ramp-up is poor, lacking in process and strategy.
Advice to Senior Management
Get closer to the employees, ask us what can be improved, establish better processes.
Pros
Used to be to work on latest technology and a great set of people. Not anymore. In the 90s and the early 2000 ATG was the innovation powerhouse. Rest of the world is still catching up with the technologies that ATG designed in those years. ATG still claims a top end roster of clients, any other company would envy to have a clientèle like that. ATG is still recognized as a leader in ecommerce field and many of the top retailers still use ATG. Unfortunately, company has become more of a product retailer, where they buy other companies, integrate their products and sell to customers, without investing in its own development efforts.
Cons
No professional growth. Managers are more concerned about quarter to quarter survival, support has no staff, products is not doing anything new and innovative (integrations), services is overworked and all the seasoned people have left.
Advice to Senior Management
Have an long term plan for the company, you can't just keep changing strategy every year. recognize what are companies strengths and use them. Remember why ATG was such a great company and what it is not.
