    Pros

You're in charge of your income. Interacting with people. Thrill of the sale. Benefits are great. Management is decent.

    Cons

Say goodbye to weekends. Not enough vacation time. 3+ days sick and you need a doctor's note... we're adults. Sales draw is stressful. Unless you're a top writer prepare for december... it's slow.

    Advice to Management

More one on one meetings with associates coaching them. If associates are breaking the rules, hurt their pocketbook and don't just split everything.

I worked at Art Van Furniture full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great way to learn how old fashioned media is done. Kim Yost is a fantastic and inspirational person - no joke - a true guru of the positive thinking. Seeing how things were done "back in the day" is a great experience. From how sales are approached, advertising campaigns, to how the customers expect interaction. Every promotion is built on the past successes. The old-timers find new products but the approach is built on tried and true philosophies

    Cons

Nothing changes if nothing changes. The IT department and upper management were unable to follow through on any new ideas. At the end of the day the past success didn't have enough open minds to try anything new. Endless opportunities were missed. Talent came and left due to the inability of the upper management to push for changes. Get some nicer furniture in the office - it's a furniture store! We should be sitting on the best furniture we sell.

    Advice to Management

Listen to Kim Yost. Embrace the change. Take some chances and invest in updates. Eventually the old customers will die. Relying on being the "largest furniture retailer in the Midwest" results in complacency.

    Pros

A lot of hands on work, busy environment.

    Cons

Low pay, usually was able to work a lot of overtime. The tent sales tend to be a bit tedious.

    Advice to Management

Treat the backroom employees as a part of the team!

I worked at Art Van Furniture full-time

    Pros

Compensation was outstanding. If you are competitive and able to focus on yourself being the best you can be, skies the limit! Benefits were great! Although it was retail hour the managers were always flexible with my schedule and in return I would be flexible with them if they ever needed me. It's a great team work environment!

    Cons

Any cons would be petty. No company is perfect, but for the most part Art Van treated me well. I was sad when I moved out of state and had to leave.

    Pros

None, not one good thing about this place.

    Cons

Liars, liars, liars, and more liars. Promised 40+ hours by management and barely made 32

    Advice to Management

Management has favorites whom they won't fire or even write up. just to keep their low pay scale on those people. Stop hiring new people to do the old employees work. Fire them!! Company success will not happen while current management is there. So much stupidity it's ridicules.

    Pros

Always meeting new people, and a fun team atmosphere.

    Cons

Working weekends and holidays. Must be in the "click" to get sales T.O.

    Advice to Management

Some managers are not fair in that they do not treat everyone equally. Please try not to show such favoritism, and treat everyone fairly.

I worked at Art Van Furniture part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Potential to build your own client base if you are available to work all weekends and multiple evenings/nights during the week.

    Cons

Forced to TO if a guest is not purchasing or leaving a deposit. Forced to TO if you can't convince a guest to purchase a warranty or any furniture cleaning kit. Other sales personnel stealing your sales of you are not in the store. Very rare to come across loyal sales personnel.

    Advice to Management

It's not professional to yell at your employees when they don't sell a warranty or furniture care kit.
