    Pros

There were a lot of great employees. A majority of the people that I worked with were pleasant and enjoyable to talk to. You could always strike a conversation and spend time getting to know new people. Nobody seems to track your browsing history, so if you look like you're working, you can just screw around all day reading articles and watching cat videos. as long as no-one can see your screen, you're good.

    Cons

Just about everything else... Technology is way outdated. Upper management could care less about finance personnel. The general mentality is "Make it work for our client, regardless of how manual the process." No fixed yearly raise, you have to fight for it. No internal career growth. I spent more than a year there, and saw 5 manager positions get filled from external hiring. No bonus for finance people, which makes it that much harder to process all the bonuses for the sales team.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within. There is much talent on the working floor. Stop hiring from CNA. Don't be stingy with pay. You can't tell the team that finance was under budget by a mil and then not increase pay....

    Pros

Well established organization with benefits that are comparable to other organizations; pretty much everyone was really nice; I think the company is going in the right direction....given it's a sales-focused organization. Lots of long-tenured employees....which can be a positive and negative.

    Cons

No flexible work arrangements you are expected to be in the office from 8 - 5 Leaders play "favorites" No work at home opportunities unless it is "warranted"; unless you are a Leader/in an office...then you get to work at home whenever you want 401K vesting sucks...it's a graduated scale Didn't see them doing things for employees; i.e., casual Fridays. Very high pressure to perform at 120% all day / every day - it's never enough Eating lunch at your desk "is the norm" This culture is very "old school" - senior executives have these huge offices (which is a waste of space); not an environment to promote collaboration. Depending on what group you work with depends on how flexible your work arrangements can be - not consistent across the board; you could be sitting next to someone who gets to work at home a couple of days a week; yet you are not "allowed".

    Advice to Management

Loosen up a bit; provide your employees (where you can) with more work-life balance / flexible work arrangements. Some of your "Leaders" are paranoid that if people are working at home...they are goofing off.....not true; this boils down to Trust. Little perks - like casual Friday's, summer hours...those kinds of things go a long way..

    Pros

AJG is a great company, just about everyone I encountered was very friendly and helpful...once you got to know them. They are putting a lot of resources and money into developing their sales platform...this is a great thing; but what about your infrastructure....you need infrastructure to support the sales growth you are trying to achieve.

    Cons

No flexible work arrangements you are expected to be in the office from 8 - 5 Leaders play "favorites"; No work at home opportunities unless it is "warranted"; unless you are a Leader/in an office...then you get to work at home whenever you want 401K vesting sucks...it's a graduated scale Didn't see them doing things for employees; i.e., casual Fridays. Very high pressure to perform at 120% all day / every day - it's never enough Eating lunch at your desk "is the norm" - feeling of being "watched" all the time This culture is very "old school" - senior executives have these huge offices (which is a waste of space); not an environment to promote collaboration. Depending on what group you work with depends on how flexible your work arrangements can be - not consistent across the board; you could be sitting next to someone who gets to work at home a couple of days a week; yet you are not "allowed" Technology is very antiquated - unless it benefits the operations side of the house....you can't get the tools and resources you need/want to improve.

    Advice to Management

Loosen up a bit and change your ways....or you are not going to attract and retain top talent to be successful in your industry - people want to know they can work at home, have flexible work arrangements without having to "beg". Be consistent in providing flexible work arrangements / good work life balance. Provide a "better/brighter" work environment. Depending on what group and/or floor you worked on depended on how nice your work environment was.....working in a beige, drab environment is no appealing.

    Pros

The people can be friendly, and individual departments seem to get along well. A good manager can help you a lot since direct managers control the flexibility of hours. The starting pay is generally fair for the market.

    Cons

It is rare to see someone promoted from within. Advancement is limited, lateral movement is rare, and little is done to develop current employees. Few employees are given bonuses and the small salary increases each year are "performance based." It is difficult to get a job here unless you have a family member or friend already working for the company.

    Advice to Management

Work on developing employees by encouraging lateral movement or assigning additional responsibilities as time goes on. Too many people are doing the exact same thing they've been doing for many years. Maintaining better communication across departments. The teamwork across departments is segregated at best and highly confrontational at its worst.

    Pros

Great company for sales people. Company continues to grow through acquisitions. Great co-workers with a lot of experience and knowledge. Location was easy to get to from multiple transportation methods.

    Cons

The culture is changing quickly. Merit increases and promotions are based on who you know not your individual contribution. There is a lot of cronyism and nepotism throughout the organization. Salary and hiring freezes are frequent. Benefits are more expensive every year.

    Advice to Management

Value employees more. There is talent outside of family members and friends. If you're going to increase the costs associated with benefits, you should give comparable salary increases

    Pros

Relaxed environment, decent pay, friendly coworkers, good location, very comfortable working conditions

    Cons

Minimal increase in pay. Limited opportunity for growth, seems like a 2nd tier organization, they are a little behind on all trends or larger companies in the same industry

    Advice to Management

Give raises and encourage growth within the company

    Pros

Co-workers, managers, salary, varied work and exposure to multiple departments

    Cons

Amt of work expected to be accomplished could not be done without overtime hours/pay, which was to be pre-approved which could be difficult to predict.

    Pros

The location and onsite cafeteria. I cannot think of anything else positive to say that adds up to 20 words.

    Cons

Old school or long-time employees who have either 1) never known anything else or 2) are there out of desperation. Seemingly low key but very high stress due to poor processes and unrealistic deadlines and expectations. The employee onboarding process is awful: to follow the exiting predecessor around on his/her last 4 days on the job is NO WAY to learn. I was warned by GlassDoor and former employees but sadly, I had to find out for myself.

    Advice to Management

Provide better oversight and audit of what's going on in the trenches. Recommend skip level meetings or an anonymous way of soliciting feedback. Too much complacency with status quo.

    Pros

Growing like the dickens. Peers were great to work with.

    Cons

I'm sure it depends on the department one works in. Salary is way less than industry average for position\time in position. Trying to get by on the cheap in IT salary-wise, for keeping an old system afloat.

    Advice to Management

Except for a few good guys, 70's style management. No-one sees the boss or the boss's boss etc.... How about relying less on email and going back to "Management By Walking Around" ? Being a self-starter with minimum supervision is not the same as no direction. CIO is semi-clueless. Tone deaf with a tin ear. Don't fall too much In love with Indian off-shore resources. Start looking to the Philippines to save even more money.
