I worked at Artisan Partners full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company has grown into a large, global investment manager with a solid reputation in the industry. Working here, you will gain insight into what it takes to run a global asset manager. Overall, good benefits.

    Cons

Management is lax in developing staff. There is not a good process in place to mentor junior level employees in order to help them develop into more value added members. Senior management is concerned about the $ they are making, not the company as a whole. Very difficult culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more proactive in adopting a more collaborative culture rather than a divisive one.

I worked at Artisan Partners full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good company to work for out of college. The industry knowledge is plentiful and rewarding. Company benefits are excellent incentive.

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations, projects and timelines are presented on the fly. Company culture is based on fear and hold true to it's motto. "Client, Firm, Team and Self" To Upper Management it doesn't matter at what cost the job gets done, only that it gets done and makes them look good. Many great employees have been taken advantage of. Communication and ProActive Management are key to any successful company, this company definately needs to take a step back and reassess both.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat the people that make you and the company look good, they are the lifeline to your wealth and success. Reward and respect them.

I worked at Artisan Partners full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The benefits are good. They give you good insurance, 100% matching on 401k, and free lunch. The funds are well known in the investment world and you have a lot of chances to rub shoulders with research companies, C level people of companies that Artisan invests in, and i-banks.

    Cons

The management is terrible and doesn't appreciate employees. The culture is run by fear and it's very unmotivating. There is little room for growth. I went into the job wanting to learn and being told I would have the chance to learn and move up. Instead, as I became more efficient at my job I was given more menial, time consuming tasks instead of using my skills to help with analyzing and other things I would told I would be doing.
Higher up employees only care about making as much money as possible and will minimize your compensation as much as possible to do that.
CEO and general operations for the company are fine and seem like good places to work but that doesn't seem to trickle into the research teams at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Motivate your employees by empowering them and showing interest in them instead of being selfish and trying to strike fear into them.

    Cons

Structure does not allow Employee's to have control over work. Lower level employees over worked, upper management lacks communication and management skills. Outdated procedures, company lacks innovation in operations.

I have been working at Artisan Partners full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Really good benefits. Employees that are not upper management are really fun and nice.

    Cons

Upper management treats the lower level like they are insignificant and meaningless
    ZERO room for growth
Pays extremely below market-level for admin support positions
CEO and CFO are really down-to-earth and great, but it's sad that their attitude and mindset doesn't trickle down to the others in upper management positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat everyone fairly. Give employees that want to grow and succeed the opportunity to do so.
