    Pros

    Nice Office Building
    Friendly Coworkers
    Paid Community Service Hours
    Religion Is Not Taboo

    Cons

    No Structured Job Training
    No Work Life Balance
    No Accountability from Leadership Team

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is only one department in the building with a structured training program to help associates both new & old succeed. Employees do not get the opportunity to learn all aspects of their job before being loaded up with cases. Quantity vs. quality seems to be more important to leadership in terms of resolving associate and client issues. Training is needed and it is not fair that associates are held to a high standard of resolving issues without even truly having all the tools and knowledge to do their jobs.

    Pros

Believes in giving back to the community

    Cons

A lot of departments do not promote from within. So, they train people to train people. The processes are so challenging that this method doesn't work. Period. Inability to transfetheo other department, although this is supposed to be one of the Pros of working there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Ascension Health Ministry Service Center full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Senior leadership has a vision and understands the long road to get there. Management accepts and acts on feedback. Well-rounded benefits plan with PTO, Health Benefits, and Retirement savings. There are reasonable advancement and extended learning opportunities. Good job security.

    Cons

With rapid growth and the ongoing Ascension reorganization, priorities change rapidly. There are many changes going on that seem to compete or conflict with one another. At times, the vision is not clear - then there's an "Ah-Ha" moment where everything you thought was wrong (Management isn't listening, this project isn't moving and no one cares, It's hopeless) suddenly comes together and makes sense.

Even with rapid growth, advancement opportunities aren't hanging on trees and at times it seems that management forgets what people did before they came to Ascension. Overcome this by engaging management, respectfully asking questions, and volunteering for tough assignments that draw on your past experience.

You're not going to get rich here, but you can live a reasonable life, enjoy decent job security, and be part of something more than yourself.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate more regularly - management changes are rarely discussed and the grape vine goes wild. Take a harder look at internal candidates, especially noting that advancement opportunities don't come around every day. Spend time on exempt career paths much the same way these paths are defined for non-exempt associates.

I have been working at Ascension Health Ministry Service Center full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Ascension is a great mission-oriented company. Good benefits.

    Cons

Politics are brutal. Management in the MSC have no healthcare experience, and they condescend to those who do. The facility was over built with flashy, colorful furniture and high-tech elaborate big screen TVs in a way that contradicts Ascension's modest values. Favorites are played and if you disagree you are isolated. The CEO is barely ever there. He doesn't even live in Indianapolis. Despite Ascension's high-minded platitudes, they pay $10s of thousands of dollars per year for his travel costs. HR department is pretentious and hard to deal with. If you want to express a concern, it is a shame that you can't trust HR to respect your confidentiality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect who your clients are. You might not think very highly of faith-based health care delivery but your clients care about it very much. Also, walk before you can run. The place is just getting off the ground and you're acting like it's Google. Slow down and get the small stuff right before chasing the big symbol crashes. Thin out the administrative areas and devote your salary budget to production people. There is too much overhead in that place.
