I worked at Ascent Media full-time

    Pros

The pros of ascent media were some of the people i got to work with and the lasting relationships i made with my team.

    Cons

The cons of ascent media were high turn over rate, long hours, long hours, long hours expected. Higher ups didn't care about lower level employees.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management would to be more flexible with employees life especially when you demand such long hours.

    Pros

Cool if you want to work in the movie industry

    Cons

The top talent is allowed to get away with pretty much anything they want. The egos in this place are out of control.

    Advice to Management

Jose Royo RIP. You were a great leader who left too soon.

    Pros

It's a job. It could be worse.

    Cons

Expect lots of results with few resources. Like many companies, they're concern about cost regarding everything. Some priorities are questionable.

    Advice to Management

I think the divestitures was a smart move. It should have been done years ago. Lots of hard working people that go on unacknowledged. You are fortunate you have very dedicated employees that love the industry.

    Pros

close to home near many restaurants outstanding mix of personalities every day at work is a new adventure - there is alwys something you have never seen before

    Cons

hours suck aging facility - equipment is in need of an upgrade - a lot of the equipment should just be trashed and the facility should start from scratch witha rebuild

    Advice to Management

press for a game plan for the future - upgrade equipment and look to weed out whatever malcontents remain.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

Ascent Media has many smart, driven people, with good vision. Newly appointed CEO is inspiring and visionary; company has great digital services vision, but squandering execution.

    Cons

Poor communication, losing ground in new services, lack of clear business strategy; many employees are demoralized and frustrated. Morale is low, and threatening ability to retain good people

    Advice to Management

    Improved communication across organization

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

It's a great place to be if you're an artist in the post production world. Ascent Media has some of the industry's best talent working at its facilities and it's leveraging the latest technology. In light of the recent writers strike, the company did a decent job of retaining as much talent for as long as possible, which was very difficult in light of the circumstances.

    Cons

Depending on the department, it's rather difficult to move up with in the company. There simply are no established career paths one can follow, which is very frustrating. Depending again on the department, the wages are not competitive and merit increases don't seem to exist at all.

    Advice to Management

In the interest of cost-cutting and moving the company into the future, remember that a price (in the form of employee turnover) will be paid if it's done incorrectly. Also, it would great if senior management gave employees a more clear-cut explanation of how they plan to achieve the goals that were laid out at the beginning of the year.

I worked at Ascent Media full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It used to have great leadership

    Cons

It used to have great leadership. But too many unnecessary high paid execs with expense accounts made the company fall to pieces.

  9. Great people, LA headquarters made managing difficult.

    Pros

Great people at the NJ facility, with talent and dedication. The location is convenient for NJ-based business and very easy to get to.

    Cons

Building business from NYC-based clients is very challenging due to preconceived notions about NJ. Senior management is in Los Angeles, which creates a burden of reporting and a non-creative approach to management, because it is very difficult to institute changes.

    Advice to Management

There is great staff. Hold on to them and keep the core business flowing. Don't waste too much time and energy attempting to break into new areas.

    Pros

Generous financial compensation and benefit options. Opportunity for advancement is available even if slow to offer and with poor incentive.

    Cons

Command-and-control leadership drains off ambition, especially when dictated methods only serve to hinder efficiency. Very little openness to meaningful collaboration.

    Advice to Management

More effective communication and transparency between departments would provide for less internal bureaucracy and red tape which would streamline work-flow.
