    Pros

    Cons

nepotism, no degree of any kind needed to work here. people with no digital video experience work as "compressionists" people who don't even know what "right click on your mouse" means work with computers no clear direction of where the company is headed people with real skills and qualifications get laid off while incompetence gets rewarded

    Advice to Management

Don't fire people with actual skills. Stop hiring people with no video background as compressionists

    Pros

This company offered the opportunity to work with some of the top professionals in the Film/Video industry.

    Cons

Terrible work place environment created by senior management. Management ineptitude resulted in a "Talent Refresh," the process of firing employees who challenged bad management decisions.

    Cons

Place is kind of clickish. Poor management. Doesn't want to be bothered with anything you tell them, bad attitudes. Fileroom clerk is not very friendly

    Advice to Management

Get managers who will listen to you instead of pushing you away and telling you that they don't have time or do not want to be bothered with your ideas

I worked at Ascent Media full-time

    Pros

Meet some nice and helpful people

    Cons

Management never care for staffs. super low bonus average of 2 weeks and increment average of $20. No matter how long you have work there, still will be sacked over minor mistake. All staffs are replaceable.

    Advice to Management

If you dun take care of staffs, how you want them to work hard for you?

    Pros

Working at Ascent has its ups and down, like any other company. My manager is very accomodating in terms of scheduling. That works both ways, as I sometimes have to work on weekends and after hours, but the filed of work I am in its normal. My co-workers are great, we all get along and look out for each other and provide assistance at the drop of a hat.

    Cons

Management is very hazy in terms of providing any sort of career path. They say that they will pay for training and education, but whenevery you ask to attend a trade show or traiing, they say its not in the budget. Management also lacks a clear vision of the company and decisions are made then reversed a few months later after we've spent considerable time and effort along one path.

    Advice to Management

Provide feedback to employees and provide a clear career path.

    Pros

Strong technical talent exists at Ascent.

    Cons

Poor internal company strategy or direction communication. Focused solely on the bottom line. Little financial support given to important initiatives.

    Advice to Management

Improve internal communication - directly engage employees in small group meetings. Where is this company going? What is its core focus?

  9. Horrible Communication!

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Ascent Media has an amazing amount of technology. Any System Engineer that works at Ascent Media will have the ability to get their hands on some cutting edge technology.

    Cons

There are some serious issues that Senior Management needs to address. First and foremost they treat their employees with little to no respect. With the downfall of the economy they have used that excuse to treat their employees like dirt. The line “You are lucky to have a Job” is over used and starting to become demoralizing to employees. Second, there is little to no communication in this company. There is a major communication gap between Senior Management, Department Directors, and a major gap between development and the system engineers. If it was not for talented employees half the work would not get done at Ascent. Third and finally, in the 4 years I have worked at Ascent Media we are going through the third company reorganization. The prior two failed because there is a serious lack of leadership in upper management. The growing consensus amongst all employees is that the Newly hired VP’s, Directors and any other Senior Management role is primarily interested in personal growth and not company goals. Once they achieve a small goal they can add that to their resume, leave Ascent Media and obtain a position at another media company for a higher salary. The employees are not fooled with their town hall meetings and management should honest and if they truly cared about Ascent they really need to figure out a way to reverse the anger and frustration they have caused to their employees.

    Advice to Management

figure out the solutions to the cons

    Pros

Worked with great people and new technology with a global client base. There is no doubt you get great experience at Ascent.

    Cons

The job was a dead end - there didn't seem to be much in the way of promotions or salary increases.

    Advice to Management

More incentives to motivate the work force.

I worked at Ascent Media full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good for software developers and employees based at the main office. If you were located there you had access to upper management and get direction.

    Cons

Political infighting among upper management far outdistanced by any innovation. This company's weak leadership seems to allow it's executives to put more energy into their personal agendas than servicing the customers.

    Advice to Management

Focus on a strategy rather than throw a bunch of ideas against the wall to see what sticks. You have to make decisions to be successful. You took on too many disconnected lines of business without an understanding of how to run them.
