Current Employee – been working at Ashley Furniture full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Great job security- Ashley is never laying people off and always hiring. Good Benefits - they have health and dental and 401k.
Cons – The pay at Ashley isn't competitive compared to other companies which often means the employees aren't the greatest in the industry. If you are hired for a position that "requires" a bachelor's degree you may find yourself working in a department where no one else actually has a bachelor's degree, they may not have any college at all. The low pay means they have to settle for people who don't meet the requirements they ask for in their job postings.
Advice to Senior Management – Better pay attracts better employees.

Former Employee – worked at Ashley Furniture full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Pretty laid back, some fun people work there.
Cons – Pretty useless website with no listed prices, since they vary from franchise to franchise. Customers get confused. Also expect to get yelled at by irate customers for warehouse errors.
Advice to Senior Management – Enough with the nepotism already.

Current Employee – been working at Ashley Furniture part-time for more than a year
Pros – The pay for a part time customer service representative is pretty decent compared to most other part time jobs in the area. It's the only reason I have kept working for the company.
Cons – Management of the company and stores sucks. There are technical issues everyday. They're in a serious need for a system overhaul. Was promised that there was a chance to move up after graduation, and there aren't any positions open for after graduation, and after asking upper management if there were any openings coming up. They said "No, but keep looking."
Advice to Senior Management – Have more performance reviews. Offer more training. Implement a better replacement strategy.

Former Employee – worked at Ashley Furniture part-time for more than 3 years
Pros – The people who work there make it a pleasant experience.
Get discount on furniture! (But how many times in a year do you buy one?)
Cons – 1) Very little scope of career growth.
2) Have to work every single holiday.
Advice to Senior Management – Build an atmosphere where people feel they can grow and prosper.
I know its a retail store but its sometimes its important to let people off on holidays, they have families too.

Former Employee – worked at Ashley Furniture full-time for less than a year
Pros – Fun work environment
Very professional
Meet new people every day
Cons – Blatant favoritism among management
Poor communication from top-down
Advice to Senior Management – Get a handle on some of the store managers' displays of favoritism, and make promotions based on more than just sales numbers. Just because someone is a great salesperson doesn't necessarily mean they'll make a great manager as well.

Current Employee – been working at Ashley Furniture full-time for less than a year
Pros – Knowledgable personnel in supervisory roles regarding aspects of the positions within their department and company
Cons – The personnel in supervisory roles do not lead by example or manage thier teams individually and by group. The take a reactive role to leadership and respond as situations arise.
Advice to Senior Management – Better training of those in leadership positions with a direct impact over employees.

Former Employee – worked at Ashley Furniture full-time for less than a year
Pros – My coworkers were very easy to get along with. Many times it was fun to connect to the customers as well. This was a good job to have if you are new to comission sales. Lots of training! Having a passion for interior design also made this job enjoyable. The base pay helped during slow furniture shopping seasons. The company is a franchise so these comments are soley based on my experience in the St Louis area.
Cons – The strict way in which we were supposed to converse with the customer was difficult to do correctly every time. It was very difficult to allow your genuine personality come through while trying to remember all the steps, how to ask the questions, and what order to do them in. There was a high amount of pressure to follow the script perfectly, no matter how your customer reacted to it. If you did a step wrong you were taken off the floor by management to spend 30 minutes role playing and then recieved a write up. I applied to work in a different position while there. After the interview I was never contacted, and eventually I had to call myself to find out that the position had been filled.
Advice to Senior Management – Have more trust in your employees.
