I have been working at Aspen Pharmacare full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work life balance, flat structure, encourages innovative thinking, hires older workers, contrarian thinking

    Cons

Flat structure, not much career development, not the best salaries in the industry, HR department is hopeless. There are 5 toxic managers in the Manufacturing plant in Dandenong that need to go last year

    Advice to Management

Fix HR, drag it kicking and screaming into the 21st century

I worked at Aspen Pharmacare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great atmosphere, management is honest and trustworthy, love the flexi time. Makes things so much easier in terms of juggling demands of home too. APTL Citywest was a great place to work. With any growing company, there was moments of stress. But through strong leadership and a great team, it was an amazing place to work. The challenges are daily and varied. I have grown a lot working there and see a lot of potential for more in the future.

    Cons

The culture is young, dynamic, but not reckless. Management is open with all employees and values contributions and consistently demonstrates a commitment to the betterment of the employees. work environment is stellar. Undoubtedly there are negatives that I was fortunate enough to not to run into, but I can only speak to my experiences there.

    Advice to Management

Expectations and goals are high but the support was present to help all employees achieve set goals. Management wanted to help their teams succeed.

  5. Aspen Global Mauritius is the career peak for those who have failed professionally in every other corner on this Earth!

    Pros

I can not remember any. Just making friends with a few decent peole who luckily got out...

    Cons

Do not get trapped by promises for career development and island bliss with cocktails on the beech! You will only see these from the window of the office if you actually have the time to look outside! This place is for people who are totally incompetent but know how to be the lap dog of senior management because this is the only way one can get a promotion. This, or if you are ‘the protégé’ of the powers to be sitting in Durban. Those who are hardworking, and see and tell things as they are, get fired. Those who are hardworking and keep their mouths shut, stay until their life force is suck out of them and then leave. This is why, the company is a gold mine for recruiters. The management prefers to spend more money on recruitment fees than development of their employees…and this is not just my own imagination but apparently a common observation based on the other ‘real’ reviews I read sofar…

I worked at Aspen Pharmacare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

very friendly and energized staff and nice mix of locals and international people. senior management are strategic, close to the details and listens to feedback. I went to management with a proposal about changing few matters in HR and the business and it was nice to see my suggestions implemented. many opportunities for promotion as the company is growing very fast.

    Cons

heavy work load. company is hiring many positions but always growing faster than hiring. Mauritius is a very beautiful island but its an island, it is good for those who like simple life and outdoor activities. example 2 movie theaters in all of mauritius. because there are many promotions in Aspen, those who are not promoted created a "nagging group", very small number but can be annoying at times.

    Advice to Management

management should keep hiring more; management should be more clear with the nagging group on why they will not be promoted because its better if they leave. I know one of them who keep nagging daily that they are not promoted but never leaves

While owners are getting richer and richer, employees are miracle acrobat workers, and management really mediocre.

I have been working at Aspen Pharmacare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

By sweating each day like a dog you can learn fast, probably 2/3 tears in one. For recruiters Aspen is a gold mining site: they suggest crap, aspen hire crap, crap leaves. And again recruiter is called in to make another process, and so they billed him. For investors: Aspen has driven a lot, but operational issues have started to increase stock outs and general dissatisfaction will drive motivation down. The power of the company are its miracle workers, who will eventually get tired.

    Cons

    1. Mediocre management who believe to be god 2. Some nice "envelops" to overcome some pricing issues with local Ministry of Healths in Europe. 2. What matters at Aspen is only if and how much sales you bring in. Nobody actually cares about you. 4. Hiring in Dublin are driven from South Africa with the "precious help of local recruitment..." 5. Don't expect a pay rise unless you have ruined seriously your life work balance, then you can expect a 3/5% increase against the same level of inflation. 6. Here in Dublin and also elsewhere company expenses are paid late, very late. 7. HR does not exist. All across Europe. Try to have an argument internally, you probably get fired in few hours. We have seen this for real.

    Advice to Management

    1. Management should seriously undertake a full revision of their supply chain operations 2. When everything is urgent, nothing is really urgent. Revise your priority critical list. 3. Own your own site. 4. Good people will keep leaving you if you do not adjust your scale and cut the crazy salaries of people in quality and HR.

  8. Lack of qualified leadership. Suck up culture

I have been working at Aspen Pharmacare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice nutricional product line with lots of room to grow in latam

    Cons

Latin american Regional management with unethical behavior, low qualifications, no market or business knowledge. Unable to hear criticism. If you dont suck up, you dont get promoted and if you dare raise your voice you will be punished and fired. Mediocre regional leadership who keep each others back.

    Advice to Management

Engage in a true and transparent process to review corporate culture, work environment surveys to unveil poor leadership and avoid valuable human capital loss

I have been working at Aspen Pharmacare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Chance to work with some very good teammates who Aspen are lucky to hold on to.

    Cons

Any motivation you walk in with on your first day is systematically sucked out of you during your time there. Those who do extra and try to improve systems are ignored while those who fade into the background and just do the bare minimum are rewarded just the same. There is no career progression! Whatever position you start on you are more than likely to leave the company in the same position as only those who suck up to management progress. Senior management is not only completely uneducated in some of the areas they are supposed to be leading but also seem to lack even a modicum of common sense. There is no communication between departments/teams so every process takes at best twice as long as it should. Every department lacks the resources they need to keep up with the workload and if the numbers are there they usually don't have the required experience needed to perform their function. No training is provided to staff to help them gain more experience in their field so the individual is left to fend for themselves and learn by making mistakes. The company oozes desperation, with every recruitment company being aware that Aspen will throw money at any candidate just to secure them and that they will most likely be recruiting someone else to take the same position in less than a year. Turnover of staff is shocking and yet HR do nothing to prevent the haemmorhage of employees. Instead they spend their time offering more benefits to newcomers instead of trying to retain good hardworking employees. The most frustrating thing about this company is that they have some very good, highly educated staff who could turn things around if they were given the chance, but instead they are ignored and things are done the way they have always been done. The company has huge potential if they would only embrace this new blood and let some of their concepts be rolled out company wide.

    Advice to Management

You have the raw materials but you are wasting this precious resource. Go out to the affiliates and make your employees feel valued. Employ department heads who are qualified and competent at both the field they represent and at managing people day to day. Once the appropriate leadership is in place that will help the other staff feel more confident in where the company is going. Also if you employ highly educated staff who bring fresh ideas listen to them. It is broke so let them fix it!!!!!!
