Pros
no pressure to perform...great friendly work environment
Cons
HR and Executive team do not provide any incentives and instill fear as a motivational tactic.
Advice to Senior Management
cherish your employees and create incentives...great people work at this company its a shame all the good ones leave because of dictature style management
Pros
Good Management, No work pressure, Friendly environment
Cons
Opportunity to Career growth is much less, you may end up doing same job for many years.
Advice to Senior Management
Provide path to career growth
Pros
Lovely friendly people work there.
People are always happy to help
Pay levels are reasonable for industry
Benefits are good
Cons
Controlling environment
No freedom to be a manager and make reasonable decisions
Culture of fear
Constant reorganisation
No desire to listen to the views of employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Engage and empower your people. It's not all about the stakeholders, employees should be recognised and rewarded too. The company can't operate without them. Be more flexible with the culture - it should not be about presenteeism but performance and output.
Pros
Peer group is exceptional but some of them get "disappeared".
Self directed work.
Customers appreciate what you do for them.
Cons
Management doesn't care about people leaving and the resulting loss of intellectual property.
Stealth layoffs.
CEO checks everyone's expense accounts himself.
Management team is the Master of PowerPoints.
HR is totally inflexible on company "policies".
CEO's team are all yes men because he is so vindictive to those who disagree with him.
Management has no understanding of the oil and gas business.
Client companies hate Aspen because of its policies but can't go elsewhere (yet).
Advice to Senior Management
Get a clue about the fact that Aspen is a specialty company and not a commodity company and that you must have high paid specialists to develop and support the software offering. Try valuing technology for a change.
Pros
Benefits
Commute
Smart people
Clean offices
Decent computer equipment
Cons
The lack of respect is apalling. The demeaning and insulting way that managers talk to their employees breed fear and de-motivation. And you don't dare go to HR, it's all part of the corp culture.
Advice to Senior Management
A little respect and appreciation for a job well done goes a long way. And lighten up!
Pros
There are absolutely no redeeming qualities of this company. Ineffective leadership, lack of strategic vision, and demoralizing culture and history of mistreatment of their employees.
Cons
The only side of the company is down. The entire sixth floor (executive suite) of Burlington HQ is walled off behind a locked door like the Wizards of Oz. The realization, however, is the same as it was for Dorothy - pure incompentence of an executive leadership team. The technology is long in the tooth, in a state of disrepair, and requires an extensive multi-year overhaul. Unfortunately for AspenTech, so is the development organization, in need of an extensive overhaul. The employees are leaving by the droves and the ones that have not left are those that cannot find another job. If you are considering employment at AspenTech, reconsider.
Pros
stable company, competitive benefits, fair wages, interest work environment, always something different and challenging, and the company has attracted very talented hard working, ethical resources.
Cons
The place is an absolute monarchy. You do not want to stand up and be counted, rather hunker down for fear of being yelled at.
Advice to Senior Management
I commend Fusco on taking on the company during the dark time, but not that he has it running smooth, he needs to pass it onto a new professional management team and assume the reign of Chairman of the Board.
Pros
Having worked at 7 different companies in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, I have seen the good and the bad in the workplace. This company is a great place to work and values the individual employee. They have respect for ideas and value feedback. Sure it is a fast moving place with lots of layers, but they hire some of the most exceptional talent into key positions and they are moving in a positive direction. Not many companies have the type of environment this place has. Plus despite mistakes from the past, they learn and move forward.
Pros:
-Rewarding career path
-Unique company culture
-Competitive and above average salaries
-Talented and experienced staff
-Nice place to work
Cons
The pace of the organization may not be for everyone and has challenges but who cares, so do most places.
-Fast paced organization
-Lots of moving parts
Advice to Senior Management
We are on the right track and nice to see that we are moving in the right direction! Keep up the great work!
Pros
Point solutions are ok. Good customers and many interesting customer engagements.
Cons
Poor management. In fact, like a dictature. The mode is management by terror and fear. The meddle management at the VP level is often worse with a constant behavior of obedience and bossy attitude with employees, while being yes men with upper levels.
Impossible to suggest any change, the CEO is always right. If you raise the hand, they barely listen and always do nothing, waiting for the decisions to come from above. Initiative spirit is discouraged, eliminated, destroyed.
The company is dying in stupid complex processes that require job positions to be created only for control and over control purposes. To justify their jobs, they tend to conceive new crazy processes every day. The system is kafkaian, totally blocked and paralyzing.
The token model is financial oriented and turns the sales force into sales administrative clerks.
No value based selling approach, the culture is teckies, features and function. Sales never talk to C-level, they only deal with technicians.
Internal communication does not exist or just like boring propaganda.
Product offering is a mess and too many disconnected point solutions.
Advice to Senior Management
Useless, they would never pay attention to any advice. Fusco and his court are paranoids and autistics.
Pros
Easy Commute, free coffee and tea, good lighting in cubicles, lots of parking, cafeteria in building, highway access is good. They are upfront about the fact that they do not value their employees - so you don't have a lot of expectations about how you will be treated - they are honest in that regard.
Good product!
Cons
- A very anti-employee company
- If you are a foreign employee being sponsored by AspenTech, please think carefully - you might find yourself in a situation where you can't get out easily
- Hostile work environment - that filters down through the entire company and is actually encouraged internally
- Senior Management have terrible reputations as "screamers" - the CEO in particular
- Very poor communication overall
- Company wastes tons of money by continuing to follow processes that don't work (ironic that AT produces "Process Improvement" software LOL ;-)
- Teamwork and initiative are constantly undermined by management
Advice to Senior Management
Who is he? I've been here over three years and have never seen the guy around the building! He's Mohammed - the mountain must go to him.
