Pros
The residents-Are the number one reason
Cons
They dont care about staff or residents they only care about the dollar sign.
Never being trained on job as med tech just given cart without any testing or anything.
Not being wrote up or talked to in a mistake, never being thanked for the hard work you do only getting yelled at for something you do wrong.
67 PSA;s and 4 nurses this place has gone threw in 2 years NOW WHERE IS THE PROBLEM MANGEMENT
Advice to Senior Management
start caring about staff andd residents not the all mighty dollars
Pros
Benefits are ok while employed there. The staff , they are what make these communities, they really care about the residents, and most important, the residents.
Cons
The cons???? Oh there is probably not enough time to list all the cons. Micromanagement is the worst!! No support from the regional team....when asked they brush you off. Then they turn around and put all the blame on you. No budget to accomplish what needs to be done with the buildings, then you are degraded for your efforts. Always threatning you with your job. Not enough staff to care properly for the residents. Told that at the end of the day its all about sales. Can't take the time off because there is not enough coverage to take time off. Then when you are no longer employed they don't pay out your benefits. Always some excuse for not getting your bonus. Does not appreciate the staff....from the line staff up to the management team. Always an excuse not to give raises. It goes on and on. They expect the upkeep of these buildings to be be always in tip top shape but yet only give you 15hrs a week maintenance. Then when you try to get something done, you have to get bids and approvals, well thats all great, but it takes forever to get the approval from the regional member, and again, the blame is put on you.
Advice to Senior Management
Not that they would care or listen. But you need to worry about these residents and the care that is being provided for them. Give the houses the appropriate staffing hours, maint hours and ect.... so that these residents can live happy and enjoy their time in your communities. Appreciate your staff. Take a look at your regional team........do you honelstly know what is going on? Realize that yes sales are important , but at the end of the day it should be Resident Care...Thats what we are there for.
Pros
The only satisfaction was from the seniors we served and co-workeers wwho really care about the residents and other employees.
Cons
Unrealistic expectations with no time to do them. Expense reports take FOREVER to be reimbursed if at all. They love to nit-pick what the residence needs.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop creating stuff to make yourself look important and hold on to your job. There is a reason that there are so many open positions.....rotten pay, rotten hours and disrespect of people who bust their butts every day to make these building a pleasant place to live for the residents.
Pros
The Residents ~~they are the reason for your job there, They need the encouragement because they see constant high staff turnover. Line staff need encouragement. Some ~~~ VERY FEW, Lead Medication Aids and Dietary Managers at a few of the Houses have stayed and need recognized, because they are the backbone of these few select houses.
Cons
Corporate micromanages the Regional teams, then Regionals are expected to micromanage the house teams (Residence Director,Wellness Dir and Sales).
There is such a constant cycle of staff turnover at all staff levels, that the training of new Staff (Resident directors, Wellness Directors, Sales Managers, Personal service attendants) Is never completed, then in turn, frustration sets in and they give up and resign or just quit. It ends up that there are staff who have been just hired, and who are supposed to be getting trained end up having to train other new staff members before their training is complete and the cycle just continues. No one knows anything !
Resident Directors are expected to go out and make 10 sales calls a week, 5 in home visits ( visiting a potential move in ) per week. They are on 3-4 conference calls per week( these calls consist of belittling and reprimanding), besides all the other responsibilities they are expected to complete within the week/month. Wellness Directors are to complete 2 sales calls per week, Depending on the occupancy of the house, they are in constant threat of their hours being cut down from full time to part time. They have no idea of their budget for supplies.
The benefits of ALC houses for the Residents compared to other Assisted Living Companies is very bland. No transportation ( at least in East Texas area ), Activities are poor because the company does not give a budget plan for the Meaningful Pursuits Director (activity manager) and this person may only be allowed to work between 10-20 hours per week depending on the Resident occupancy.
There is so much more to say, but a book would be written before I would be able to finish.
Advice to Senior Management
Stand up to Laurie Bebo and her puppets and let the Board of Directors know how things really are, surely at least one of the directors would have a heart and want to see the truth at the house levels. The best thing I can see is the company sell off to others companies who care about people, and Laurie go get a job that does not involve the care of people.
Pros
The residents and staff were the best!
Cons
No positive support from the regional team, micromanaging by upper management, very understaffed, every employee was overworked especially the salaried employees. The only thing the company cares about is census. They do not care about the residents or staff at all. The almost daily conference calls are a waste of time.
Advice to Senior Management
ALC needs to put the residents and employees first, so the census can fall into place.
Pros
Residents
PSA's, cook and Med Techs
Cons
Overly Demanding, Disrespected by Regional Staff, Non-caring and insensitive regional staff regarding residents concerns and conditions. Cared more about occupied units not people.
Advice to Senior Management
Become more sensitive to the day-to-day operations at the facility as well as the residents. Be less vocal about occupied units.
Pros
Great opportunity for career growth, Helping residents and families, staff and team members
Cons
If you are well organized, have clinical knowledge, and are good with multi tasking, it is a great job. If not, it won't work for you.
Advice to Senior Management
Please continue to give the support...
Pros
The immediate staff and building management. The personal reward of helping people. I love the people I work with, but upper management stinks!
Cons
M I C R O M A N A G E M E N T . Flagrant disregard for state regulations. Disrespect for people, only income driven. Expecting activities to be done by vooolunteers when it previously was a paid position. Not enough staff to accomplish what is expected and ROTTEN wages. Finding any & every excuse to not give raises. Management through fear & intimidation.
Advice to Senior Management
Pull your head out of the sand. You would NEVER survive Undercover Boss! Backbraking work for barely more than minimum wage. Peoples lives are at stake & cashiers @ Kmart get paid more. Why do you think tthere are so many unfilled positions & rapid turnover? You should kiss the feet of those of us that stay!
Pros
The residents are really fun to care for and work with. Most of the Med Aides and PSA's have a great work ethic. If you are lucky to have a great Trifecta Team (which not many houses are), it is a plus.
Cons
If you like to be thrown into a job with little to no orientation, have ever changing expectations, and pointless conference calls 3-5 days/week, then this is the job for you!! If you have the characteristics to be a puppet and cannot think for yourself, then you will be a perfect fit! In addition, if you enjoy getting put down and yelled at during conference calls because your house isn't full, or if you enjoy working off the clock and sacrifing time with your family, you will definately enjoy this job!! Also, be prepared to use your own money to purchase the basic items you need to perform your job, because you will not get reimbursed for 8 weeks, if at all.
Advice to Senior Management
If the company would be smart enough to do a cost anaylsis of turnover with regards to the Trifecta Team members they would realize how much money they are losing with their current management style.
Pros
The residents and the families.
Cons
Assisted Living Concepts is a money hungry company that doesn't care about the well-being of the residents. They only care about themselves and getting more residents into the building. When there is a problem corporate does not take care of it and will take advantage of the elderly people in every possible way they can.
Advice to Senior Management
Have a heart transplant.
