Pros
Great CIO with great experience in former companies, great IT staff, knowledgeable in their subject matter, very team oriented. So very much team oriented in the Service Centers it's "us" versus "them" which leads to a mushroom mentality "en mass" . Stevens Point maintains all the middle managers (one just moved to the other side) and some knowledgeable people (who don't say much due a lack of local IT jobs). Green Bay Service Center has all the experience but is stymied by middle management from two hundred miles away. They used to have much more experienced staff but most of them moved on. If you like competition from your own boss then this is it!!
Cons
Extremely poor middle management. They can't communicate with each other, cannot prioritize projects and HR provides extremely poor health insurance coverage. Something you'll really need after a few months there. A prime example of what not to do as a Corporation but then again non of middle management has ever really been in a true corporate environment so I guess thats ok if they make a few Hundred) mistakes (over and over). If you like to improve things or fix things this is not the place for you. Here it's "Projects" or else, no free thinking only robots allowed.
Advice to Senior Management
Go find something your good at and love to do and go do it, this obviously isn't it. Nothing can be said that has not been discussed in many of the weekly held team/manager/exec/HR meetings and your improvement training sessions. The fact is your inexperienced, stubborn or maybe quite honestly actually incapable of learning anything that could benefit you or the company. To the CIO, some of middle management is giving you a "black eye" by using fear of job loss, in your name, to keep quite.
Pros
Still have some "old school" benefits such as a defined pension and non-expiring sick days. New CEO seems to be interested and engaged in changing work culture of old boy network.
Cons
Too many examples of the Peter Principal. People seem to be promoted on seniority instead of competency. Which makes it hard for them to support their direct reports. It is a Bank, and they are more interested in following procedure then actually getting things done. Management talks about wanting people to "own their work", but provide little or no support to actually allow you to "own your work"
Advice to Senior Management
Please start to take the time to think ideas all the way out instead of just reacting and shooting from the hip.
Pros
Benefits are great! Health insurance is Blue Cross Blue Shield Anthem Lumenos and very cheap. Hours are good because the branches in the loop are only open M-F during business hours, unlike outlying branches that are open later and on Saturdays. The staff is young and upbeat, including management; management is very approachable.
Cons
Pay is not that great. They offer incentives to earn "incentive" money, however, you have to reach a sales quota first and that is a hard goal to reach. The office environment is also very slow paced and quiet. The only excitement in the office is when there are a lot of customers needing assistance.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep in mind what is realistic for your employees. It is counterproductive to assign goals that are unattainable, and then penalize employees who cant reach the goals. Keep the state of the economy in mind when expecting people so bring in business; people are tighter with their money and more scared to part with it.
Pros
good bene's, time off, sick
Cons
poor pay, not very stimulating
Advice to Senior Management
ok
Pros
Nice Time Off
Relaxed Work Atmosphere
The bank has been doing well in the economy
Some of the people are genuinely nice
Cons
Old culture.... lack of a young workforce
Credit seems to be the only area of hiring currently
Little feedback about job performance
Never see your manager
Advice to Senior Management
Talk with lower level employees more and show them how they are contributing to the company. Better the internship program so the interns have more to do than just filing and data entry
Pros
Company seems to promote from within, but to the highest level of someone's incompetence.
Vacation policy and sick time policy very competitive once you reach 3 years of service.
As of July '09, still offer all employees 401(k) and company paid pension plan.
Cons
Environment of micro-management throughout the chain of command.
Company has grown too fast, outgrown systems and processes
Tries to act like they are a large national bank
On the retail side, sales goals are comparable to larger banks with larger market share, but products are not competitive. Lack of support from marketing and product development team.
Too many manual processes, manual reports to compose, email, and manage to.
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate corporate strategy/direction more to client facing employees.
Better product development, more competitive deposit product set if sales goals are to remain high.
Pros
Flexible schedule, not working on Sundays. You are also able to dress up for the holidays or major sporting events in the area. Lots of time spent on hands on training as well as systems use. Flexible schedule with other tellers allows every one to trade hours or days. Stock purchase plan and other benefits are fair but at the level of the position it is nice to have the option.
Cons
Early hours on the weekends, locking down the place at night (have to be careful as it is a bank). At times the days you want off are already taken by other people.
Advice to Senior Management
Better indications of the companies direction
Pros
Flexible work hours, decent amount of vacation provided, competitive pay.
Cons
Senior Management never has time for their employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Create time in your day to answer questions, provide direction. Senior Management holds all the decision making powers, yet never make themselves available to provide needed direction.
Pros
Growing Company. Many positions available and room from growth as we grow. Friendly staff and well educated. Its nice to finally work for a financial with a lot of experienced staff with many years of experience. Everything from working within the company and previous experience.
Cons
Growing too fast at times. Need to take a step back and re-organize some departments to ensure we do not out grow our current companies needs.
Advice to Senior Management
Organized and well focused. Keeps the staff on all levels informed on new promotions and happenings within the company.
