Pros
The company offers great benefits.
Cons
the management is not effective at all at providing staff with leadership.
Advice to Senior Management
Think about the staff by listening to their suggestions for improvements. Maybe have an anonymous suggestion box in each department.
Pros
employee satisfaction promotions were pretty good like volunteering in the community or having events on site, the people are very polite and friendly even the strangers you see on the elevator, i had the flexibility to manage my time during the day (if i had to leave for an emergency, i could leave) , the salary was decent but i knew what to expect
Cons
this relates only to my direct manager because they are the only one i dealt with on a day to day basis - poor communication, inconsistenct work directives, disparity of treatment, absolutely no proper training in place, no vision for the organization, volatile environment at times
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management should take a further look from the top down as to who is minding the ship.
Pros
Great benefits with industry level pay-scale
Cons
First day on the job, 20 people were laid off from IT.
The cubicle (dilbertville) layout is horrendous. No privacy.
Advice to Senior Management
Drop the buiness silos and open up communication.
Pros
Location, other employees, training ok
Cons
Management poor, Conditions worked until burned out, no help with clients, clients always unhappy on the phone with our work ethic, will not allow you to go to restroom or get water when needed unless on break or lunch Management has no clue what to do, poor pay for what you do and fire you before benefits begin. Many employees on medication for blood pressure due to work performance and fear of being fired on the spot. Glad I am out of there.
Advice to Senior Management
work for 3 months then out of a job no help from management management has no education or disappear when needed clients suffer and we look stupid as employees. They lie to you about your performance and can you the next day
Pros
Good compensation for those that can advance, but there is a good ole' boys club you have to join to get there.
Cons
Benefits keep getting reduced each year while the employee work load keeps increasing as Sr Management slashes costs by reducing headcount and cutting benefits, all the while trying to grow the business.
Many businesses are unable to react to market changes in a timely manner due to "paralysis by analysis" mentality and being afraid of their own shadows.
People get rewarded and advanced for sucking up rather than on their abilities, good ole' boys club.
Human Resources is there to cater to and side with management, not the individual employee, never trust HR.
Advice to Senior Management
Find more consumer friendly products that can be praised by consumer advocates. Blur the lines between the 4 existing very isolated business units ( Health, Solutions, Benefits, Specialty). If you bring a fraction of the perks and praise to the operations people as you do the sales & marketing associates you will be in a much better place.
Pros
Wonderful coworkers and good place to start- if you can work here, you can work anywhere. It all depends on the department you're working in and who your managers are. Many people are very happy at Assurant and have been working there for over 20 years.
Cons
This is a very stressful environment to work in. The customers are demanding, there is minimal training and knowledge transfer, and most employees are overworked. The compensation is not that great- take any talk of bonuses with a LARGE grain of salt.
Advice to Senior Management
Take time to listen to employees, help them set priorities, and try to make the work environment less stressful. Employees want to succeed, but more coaching is needed.
Pros
Company had great benifits. Company has a good HR department
Cons
too much covering up of mistakes and no accountabilty
Advice to Senior Management
stop getting rid of your middle management and start looking at you upper management interpersonal skills
Pros
good benefits: medical, 401k, pension plan, child care, school. gym.
nice headquarters.Places to relax when stress due to work
Cons
not much room for career progression
progression more feasible with good connections inside the company
lack of management listening to workforce
Advice to Senior Management
listen to your workforce
Pros
Beneftis 401k match, stock options, pension and educational reimbursemnt
Cons
Inability to advance within the compnay
Advice to Senior Management
Better communication to people under upper management
Pros
Great benefits, lots of opportunities for training, industry leading products, very ethical with regard to professional practices, extremely flexible with regard to scheduling and balancing work/life .
Cons
Too much politicking. If you're not in the in-crowd, you're not going anywhere. Obvious favoritism and a lot of game--playing. Senior executives who are more in it for them selves than for the success of their direct reports. No skip level reviews, so no opportunity for direct reports to provide feedback on their managers.
Advice to Senior Management
Look at your managers. Keep your good talent. Your environment is getting toxic, so find a way to make it more positive again.
