Pros
If you apply yourself you will have endless opportunities to advance within Assurant Health. They are very generous about helping you pay for school. You start out with paid insurance and two weeks paid vacation. All in all I have always felt happy about Assurant Health as a company.
Cons
Really there isn't anything. If you put in the work you will succeed. Departmental management could learn how to offer newer challenges to their employee's that ask for it.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn to better utilize the individuals who are an assets within your departments a little better. If a person is seeking a new challenges, don't stop the motivation, provide them an opportunity.
Pros
Excellent leadership, lots of very smart people to learn from. You'll have a very hard time finding a group more knowledgeable of and experienced with individual health insurance.
Cutting edge technology compared to competitors.
Compensation was good (coming from someone who regularly got above average annual reviews).
Cons
The location was not desirable for me. Also, they have an appropriate focus on performance. So if the company hits a slow patch and you're not performing as expected or better ... there's a fair chance you'll be shown to the door. This isn't really a downside to me, but if you're expecting a place where you can be a slug and just do the minimum possible this place probably isn't for you.
Advice to Senior Management
I have no advice.
Pros
Company is small enough that entry-level employees can be involved in the development process for tools and systems they use in their everyday jobs.
Cons
The company is shrinking more and more each day as jobs are being downsized, outsourced and offshored -- entire departments are being laid off to reduce "costs" caused by several states filing expensive litigations against the company.
Advice to Senior Management
I'm not sure where things went so haywire, but the company seems to be teetering on the brink of oblivion at the moment. It's never a good working environment when people are wandering around lifelessly, waiting for their turn at the downsize desk.
Pros
