    Pros

Everyone respects each other, family oriented, feels like what it should be. Unity!

    Cons

Challenges are set by ones self, and not understand what being respecful to others. Unfortunately sometimes there are people who do not understand mutual respect and create a little havoc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Assurant full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Pension (not offered after 1/1/14), my direct manager, relaxed dressing, telecommute, flex time, daycare

    Cons

Very political environmen; outsourced too much too quickly to India. New EBS leader is abrasive and untrustworthy, too much focus on stock price. Bad behaviors by certain VPs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide training to your staff, invest in their development. Stop making excuses for India team and bring work back. Get rid of VPs who have been there for more than 20 years they are detrimental to good behavior.

I have been working at Assurant full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Competitive pay, benefits, time off and the opportunity to telecommute are all pros here. This office is close to restaurants and shopping. For the most part co-workers are friendly and easy to work with.

There are many opportunities to learn a new skill. There are also opportunities for special projects.

If you're willing to learn, you will learn a lot about the banking and insurance industries.

    Cons

    Everything boils down to numbers.

Unrealistic and conflicting expectations when compared to what employees are provided with. Programs used throughout the day are severely outdated. Instead of resolving issues that have been present for years, management chooses to blame or look down on employees instead of taking appropriate steps, such as choosing new software that can actually handle the amount of work they expect (at the pace desired), creating a realistic sliding scale or revamping policies and procedures so that they actually make sense.

The majority of these issues are attributable to poor organization and leadership. Managers are often confused, unsure or resigned to the way things are (and have been for years). Leadership fails to schedule desk moves, major changes, meetings or software upgrades appropriately. This results in chaos and then they panic because someone higher up slapped their hand and asked what's going on? Nine times out of ten this is the case. They react when someone above them slaps their hand instead of being proactive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be proactive and not reactive. Work on organization across the board. Train your managers, not just new employees.

There are managers and leads that can't work systems or aren't skilled to properly answer questions from those they are leading. The latter is terrible. How can you lead when you don't know what you're even talking about?

Stop micromanaging your brightest and proven talent.

Listen, pay attention and give your employees the tools they need to excel.

    I worked at Assurant

    Pros

Casual, flexible work environment. Very open door with senior level employees. Pay is decent, people are friendly.

    Cons

Departments are treated differently. Some management has been there too long. Systems are old, need updating. Because it's so large, difficult to get things through process change.
