Pros
pay is good and the benefits are good
good people
overall culture is pretty good
really hard working people
domestic and international offices
Cons
Internal cronyism to friends, especially by appointing them to positions of authority and giving promotions regardless of their qualifications.
Lack of clear strategic leadership from Sr Management
Management squeezing people to work more
Lack of prioritization
Advice to Senior Management
Promote people based on merit and qualifications not because they are your friends.
Hire more people stop over-working your staff
Prioritize workload, not everything can be a priority one.
Pros
higher salaries than some other employers
Cons
they keep dropping the level of health insurance coverage
Advice to Senior Management
positive feedback works well
Pros
Assurant is a great company to work for. They give annual raises (based on performance) and pay was okay.
Cons
It's like they try to hold some people back. I know some people who have been at Assurant over 5 years and still have the same position. I hate that the assocaites (who are the hardest working) never receive any praise.
Advice to Senior Management
Assurant is a great company, but the Florence site needs some reconstructing.
Pros
Assurant is an industry leader of specialty insurance, and it is a good company to work for, depending on the location and position.
Cons
If you are not located in one of the main locations (ie Atlanta) chances of growth are very low - not non existent, but slim.
Advice to Senior Management
There has been a lot of emphasis on cost savings - you gotta give a little to get a little.
Pros
Assurant has great hard working employees and a very solid upper management driving the company. The benefits are still good, although they are not as great as they used to be before this economic down turn.
Cons
Assurant has downsized its IT staff considerably making those fortunate to still have a job manage large workloads. Workloads most staff are not willing to put up with and thus why some good employees are looking for work elsewhere.
Advice to Senior Management
Look at the workloads your current staff are struggling to keep up with and either pay us what we are worth or add other staffing resources in addition to what you have so that our work life balance is manageable.
Pros
Good place to get started, flexible in time off, enjoyable coworkers
Cons
Not enough room for career growth
Advice to Senior Management
Support cross-business projects
Pros
Employee-friendly model with good pay, benefits, and room to move up as it is a Fortune 500 company.
Cons
Financial industry is pretty vanilla
Pros
The company offers good benefits
Cons
Too many overtime working during quarter end and year end.
Pros
Multiple job opportunities within the company and chances to move throughout the United States and other parts of the world.
Cons
Leadership team lacks focus. Takes the shotgun approach to leadership and reacts rather than plans. The good 'ole boy network seems to dominate the culture.
Advice to Senior Management
Take the time to listen more to subordinates. Establish a fair employee mentoring program. This company has the potential for being really a good place to work, but leadership seems to be very self-absorbed.
Pros
Training opportunities available and college reimbursement.
Cons
Some employees need to do a better job of being professional.
Advice to Senior Management
Acquire some training at managing staff. Also, develop some people skills with your staff. Some days you greet people....other days you don't.
