I worked at Assurant full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Assurant is a premier provider of targeted specialized insurance products in North America and selected other markets. Locations throughout the United States. Good benefits.

    Cons

Difficulty juggling work / life depending on your department or job function. Very mature company, so not as much risk taking as many organizations.

    Advice to Management

Many changes ahead with the sell off of Assurant Employee Benefits and Assurant Health. Please do your best to keep the lines of communication open all the time.

    Pros

Good benefits, ability to work from home for certain positions

    Cons

work overload. Management expected you to be able to do more work that was attainable in 1 day without overtime.

    Advice to Management

    Assess workload

    I worked at Assurant full-time

    Pros

There is always work and the company gives good enough bonuses.

    Cons

They expect too much from the adjusters. I personally was being underpaid for the industry standard for years. Also, the overtime is a killer. Getting there at 7 and working sometimes until 11 at night just to get the job done. And that was during off season too. Pending was too high to maintain. Everyone was burnt out and didn't want to be there. Very low moral.

    Advice to Management

Promote people based on their work and not because you like their personality. Obviously being personable is important but quality workmanship should be accounted for as well. Too many times I've seen the laziest people get raises or promotions while you leave the hard workers in the same spot just because you don't want to lose their work ethic in that position. I do believe this is standard in most businesses now though. Shame.

I have been working at Assurant full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits and ability to work from home.

    Cons

Management micro manages and doesn't let you work from home when it's convenient to them. Preferential treatment with new hire employees and veterans are treated like garbage and looked down upon.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to micro manage the new hires rather than the veterans and be more alert rather than oblivious to the new hires' work and all the mistakes being made.

they offer work at home and at the end of the year you may get a bonus

    Cons

The Duluth office is not very well organized. each year they worry if the clients are going to renew their contracts, the processing dept is constantly making double payment out for homeowners insurance policy.

I have been working at Assurant full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I've meet some of the most beautiful people inside and out at Assurant! Everyone gets along well and aim for the same goals, always will to help each other and strive for excellence!

    Cons

Management can sometimes not be available. It's hard to get a manager to sit done and listen to you, most of them seem like they are always rushing to a meeting or busy doing an important project.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to your employees and listen to what they have to say, and don't talk over them, hear them out. Employees make the company, and the are the glue to the whole operation, that makes everything stick together.

    Pros

Benefits are effective the 1st day of employment.

    Cons

Company does not promote work life balance. Senior Leadership is completely disconnected from frontline staff. As a third party vendor, everything is dictated by client demands with very little thought given to staff impact.

I worked at Assurant full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Proximity is close to home. No major highways to get to work.

    Cons

Lack of professionalism, lack of educated managers and team leads, too many changes, no time to let a process work after changes before changing again, no room for growth, the company does not access employees knowledge to see where they best fit, prevent employees from growing by not allowing an employee to learn new things, managers change every few months. No set guidelines. Everything is always based on the manager's discretion.

    Advice to Management

Continue to learn, never stop learning, get your degree in something. You cannot manage people effectively if you only have a high school diploma and your employees have bachelor's and master's degrees.
