I worked at Assurant full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pension (not offered after 1/1/14), my direct manager, relaxed dressing, telecommute, flex time, daycare

    Cons

Very political environmen; outsourced too much too quickly to India. New EBS leader is abrasive and untrustworthy, too much focus on stock price. Bad behaviors by certain VPs.

    Advice to Management

Provide training to your staff, invest in their development. Stop making excuses for India team and bring work back. Get rid of VPs who have been there for more than 20 years they are detrimental to good behavior.

    Pros

Casual, flexible work environment. Very open door with senior level employees. Pay is decent, people are friendly.

    Cons

Departments are treated differently. Some management has been there too long. Systems are old, need updating. Because it's so large, difficult to get things through process change.

    Pros

The environment has room for growth

    Cons

As typical with any large company, the office politics are extremely high. People will throw others under the bus to look good and get that next promotion.

    Advice to Management

Keep your word when you have good people and you promise to bring them on as an employee. People have families to feed.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

The services we provide can be very demanding. All the managers and people I work with are supportive in whatever it takes to get the work done best way possible. Collaboration and team work is highly encouraged, and we're always learning the business to become subject matter experts across all operations. It's not all work and we still have fun at times. Skill development is actively pursued by individuals and as many opportunities to get hands on experience is offered. It's very much a learning environment and provides expanding into new areas to learn.

    Cons

It can be difficult and a con for those not comfortable with ongoing and time sensitive changes.

    Advice to Management

The only suggestion might be to support more individual hands on project management techniques to help complete projects.

I worked at Assurant full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great pay for the area

    Cons

I don't find it smart to do a background check after the fact for an employee that has been employeed with the company for a year. Than let them go for nothing.. Yet there are computer theives still working there with no problem.

    Advice to Management

Do better because your no better than the rest

    Pros

Solid company, friendly environment, good people. Work from home is an option for most departments, fair salary and benefits.

    Cons

Change is slow, management needs additional training on how to manage teams and responsibilities.

    Advice to Management

Seek additional opportunities to acquire leadership skills to instruct your employees
