I have been working at Astbury Marsden full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have been with Astbury Marsden for over 6 months and the future is definitely looking bright. Before I joined (like with everyone joining a new company) read the reviews, did my research and fully understood there were some challenges ahead. During my interview, the senior management team were very honest about the recent changes and how it had affected the business but explained they were passionately determined to hire wisely and smartly to positively influence the future of the business. What a difference 6 months can make...New office, great hires (about 6 in the London office and all have already contributed to fees and helped to create a buzzing sales environment), great sense of direction, fun weekly and achievable incentives, togetherness and genuine desire for everyone to succeed. Long may this continue and excited about the times ahead.

    Cons

Need to improve on communications between the global offices

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing

I worked at Astbury Marsden full-time

    Pros

There are/were some quite amazing and talented people who worked at this organisation, and as is the same at other businesses, people who are in it for themselves only. This was once, a wonderful organisation with real passion at the core. Taking care to have a quality approach to both employees, candidates and client alike.

    Cons

As with all businesses (I suppose), going through continuous change, making changes in direction at (seemingly a drop of a hat), affects morale, people's sense of belonging to something that's trying to achieve something (whatever that might be currently), and mostly the brand's portrayal to the 'outside world'. I wish them luck, because they'll need it

    Advice to Management

It's a shame you don't recognise a good thing when you see it.

I have been working at Astbury Marsden full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - excellent talent within the company, consultants are knowledgeable and offer a consultative rather than "sales" service - strong client base within FS and growing within oil and gas - good brand name to clients within financial services - good incentives if you do perform well and no threshold for commission

    Cons

    - high turn over in the last year but this has largely removed the less talented/underperforming consultants - communication from the board down could be better - need more training opportunities

I worked at Astbury Marsden full-time

    Pros

Astbury Marsden used to be highly regarded competitor and was one of the reasons why I decided to join this place over other offers but my god was I wrong. There are some talented individuals there that will really go places --- but they have to leave to realise their full potential. Back-office support / finance team are legendary Client base is still decent

    Cons

Where do I begin !!!!! The company is run by a group of shareholders who have not run a recruitment business before. By making the last MD redundant --AM lost a lot of great consultants to their competitors -- J Nicholson built a great legacy and instead of the board allowing him to move forward they constricted this and decided to increase base profit not by increasing sales but by letting people go. Was fundamentally an IT recruitment business but the new MD who does not have an IT background is not really interested in increasing their market share. It seems like the panic buttons have been pushed and they are trying to do quick spot business rather than deliver long-standing relationships. There is no real buzz on the floor and it is very hard for juniors to get trained properly.

    Advice to Management

Bring back some of the passion which made this place great in the first place. Understand that you dont need to constantly reinvent the wheel.. Look after your current clients

I have been working at Astbury Marsden full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

When I came to Astbury Marsden, there where lot of confusion , will it satisfy my needs or expectation as I was entering the New Business Area ( oil & Gas) . Things are completely different in the first week of my work , which proved to be the best recruitment firm I heard in Singapore. I don't wanted to use ONE OF THE . I dont think I heard any thing better in the last 4 years of my work in Singapore after meeting N number of recruitment consultant or recruiters. Excellent working culture , work life balance , great ethics , amazing talents around and fantastic reward programs. One other thing impressed me which my previous company did not do being a major player on Niche skill is Intern and giving a chance to young engineer or graduates. Hope and wish I will be part of AM success in coming days and I will surely recommend to every one in this market. The treat you as a Family.

    Cons

I cant see any Cons . As being a professional this AM is Ethical and Professional . Then why Cons?

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work .

I have been working at Astbury Marsden full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Having been her for a few years I've worked with a lot of good people I'd be friends with outside of work. I trust people here to work with me, whereas a lot of other companies invoke a selfish, aggressive environment. As with all recruitment companies, I have seen some people come and go in a short period but more often because of their own inability rather that the fault of the tools Astbury Marsden gave them (I have no doubt some of them will leave reviews on here), whereas others have risen through the ranks very quickly. There are managers here who have adapted to the changing nature of recruitment and progressed from consultants in a short space of time. The company still has a family atmosphere, with drinks on a Friday. Yet sales is key, and training to make ourselves stand out from the market is key to this. Throughout the business, we have a culture of building relationships with our clients rather that looking for quick wins. Comments contrary to this in other reviews are completely inaccurate.

    Cons

During a process of transition and attempt to grow, there have been changes on the floor. The company needs to now stabilise with the strong current workforce and we drive forward into new markets.

    Advice to Management

Bring very senior specialist recruiters in who can train in the industry rather then just in sales.

I worked at Astbury Marsden full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great location and office Fun environment to work in Supportive Management team Great incentives to work towards Everyone knows everyone, no back stabbing or bitching which is quite rare in recruitment Increased training over 2014 based on feedback from 2013- management are listening more to the needs of current employees Opportunity to open new teams/desks

    Cons

Sometimes the communication is lacking, this can be improved on – definitely a working progress If you don’t shout loud enough at times you can be missed

    Advice to Management

Need to communicate better with the floor at times, be a little more transparent and clear Make better use of the appraisal process so Consultants can see a clearer development path
