    Pros

People are very friendly and benefits are great. There is quite a bit of expertise, however, it is not well-utilized. Working for a Japanese company teaches how to be respectful of other cultures Cafeteria has great food. You will learn a lot about working with Japanese

    Cons

Management is quite weak and HR is punitive although they like to put on a good show of their nice benefits and work/life balance. If you work with Japan or Netherlands, will need to work very long hours. However, you can work from home and use flexible hours. Although they try to recruit experienced people from big pharma, they rarely use their expertise. This results in having to dummy down; to use old approaches that were tried 10 years ago. The technologies and science is not cutting edge and they are trying to compete with big pharma.

    Advice to Management

Management is not trained or rewarded for growing their people.

    Pros

Astellas culture is one of a small company. Unlike other pharma companies, they let you run your territory as your own business. They do not require you to "get signatures". they just want you to make your quota and then some.

    Cons

The only con I can think of is that you have to work with several partners that call on the same doctors so scheduling can be tricky and your partners need to be as good as you are in order for you to get to be very successful.

    Advice to Management

Make the territories smaller and not overlap with so many partners.

    Pros

Work/Life Balance, Great Opportunities for Growth if you have the right manager, Fantasic Benefits and they are consistently adding more each year, nice place to retire from under right management.

    Cons

A lot but its based off personal feelings and have nothing to do with the business.

    Advice to Management

Stop recognizing the same people year after year especially when the department is small. If you only have less than 20 people in an organization, the same people should not get acknowledged all of the time regardless of rating. You have an entire department that contributes to make the brands successful and which recieve high ratings also so share the wealth.

    Pros

Astellas is a growing dynamic company that supports their IT staff with training and management guidance. The approach of PMO management is to guide staff to success rather than holding club over their heads.

    Cons

They have a heavy reliance on contract staff.

    Pros

If you perform you be financially rewarded for your results. Good benefits and retirement plan for the industry. Good training programs.

    Cons

Micromanaged, constantly tracking signatures, samples, and time stamps of calls. Management can be very belittling. Limited advancement opportunities, does not promote from within.

    Advice to Management

Missing the big picture by trying to become or be like "Big Pharma." Sales results determines performance, not metrics measured by checking a box.

    Pros

Medical coverage great, car standard, if you like excessive conference calls your will love it here. Field ride alongside are two days of torture are the written report will contains fiction.

    Cons

No quality management ,only work here if desperate, IT is terrible, sales data cumbersome to disfunctional, work load not get much worse, very unfair IC plan that only benefits states with managed care coverage. Do not ever expect fair treatment, training blows and the meetings are painfully low quality. Trust, talent and intelligence are scarce here.

    Advice to Management

Fix IC plan, sales data cumbersome

    Pros

Great company, great retirement benefits. The company culture will depend on your direct supervisor, but my experience is that the overall leadership cares about the hospital reps and want to keep good people.

    Cons

Again, this depends on your supervisor. The hospital sales force is contracting. Not many opportunities for development.

    Pros

Working in an environment where you try to bring new innovative medicine to patients and physicians. There are regularly new projects to start and bring to completion. It is quite exciting to be on the cutting edge with future drugs for unmet needs.

    Cons

The company is going though periodic restructuring of departments. You could feel that you and your team are performing well and find out that your group is cut out in the next reorganization.

    Advice to Management

Trying to get a sense which projects are part of a "long" term vision or commitment to avoid to be caught in the next reorganization.
