I have been working at AstraZeneca full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The Company offers a free counciling service to employees. There is a large take up of this due to working conditions that verge on intolerable yet remain within employment law.

    Cons

Incompetent senior managers. Cottage industry made of performance management. Yet no budget available to reward high performers. Lost the focus on science. Hare brain scheme to relocate R&D to Cambridge. Wasted lots of money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go back to the European work ethics of yesteryear. The soul of the company has been destroyed by US influence. Absolute stuff and nonsense that relocating to Cambridge in the UK will invigorate R&D. The Company has lost very talented individuals who have voted with their feet.

    Pros

Incredible experience - offered me great exposure to a range of roles at the company. Lots of research experience as well as compiling data and regularly presenting work.

    Cons

Difficult if you ended up on a project you weren't interested in.

Good opportunities for me, but I don't believe it has the pipeline to succeed long term

I worked at AstraZeneca full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Had a very supportive culture, but like most places it was very dependent on which team you're in and who your boss is
    Great at selling stuff!

    Cons

Crazy internal governance and decision making - very driven by personalities rather than reason
I left when things were going a bit crazy - hopefully things are better now.
The pipeline was looking extremely thin. Not sure it has transformed in the way the external world (and Pfizer) thinks it has
Talent management and development was for the few, and was totally dependent on the goodwill of your line manager

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve decision making at the highest level
Make development and talent management accessible to all.

Flexible and good work life balance

I have been working at AstraZeneca part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours, good benefits and bonus structure, good opportunities to work in other areas. Decisions can take some time though. Good place to work

    Cons

Quite political and sometimes have to work in role above your level without getting paid and compensated for this (and getting job title).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Benefits great but need to find a way of keeping the large experience and knowledge of people due to the re-structure of the company.

I worked at AstraZeneca full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Generaly very nice people to work with and managers etc on a personal level were always warm and accomodating where possible

    Cons

wage is average to poor for the sector. Little room for progression with most people staying for at least 5-8 years in their band. Very resistant to change and were often met with a "we do it this way because we have always done it this way" mantra - despite all of the change an initiatives from the top which were often meerly just words rather than actions. Constant rounds of reorganisation and redundancies meant that productivity had dropped at least 50% as people were too bust working out where the next job was going to be!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open to new ideas and have the courage of your convictions, stop with that half arsed plans and just do it properly!
