    Pros

    Company is wildly solvent/successful.
    •Politics are minimal to nonexistent.
    •Work/life balance is admirable.
•At the same time, we get a lot done!
•People are incredibly nice and welcoming.
•Great “let’s-roll-up-our-sleeves-and-get-‘er-done” attitude! Lots of companies claim this as their culture but few deliver, IMHO.
•Company sensitive to mind-numbing Bay Area commutes.
    •Tolerant workplace.
•People leave you alone to do your job.
•My supervisor is very hands-off and lets me do my thing, but, then, he sort of knows exactly when to come in and provide really valuable advice, then he swoops off! Love it.
•I really love this place and my job.
When people are terminated, usually we all get it. Not "I can't believe they let Barney go! He was so nice and ridiculously competent." And when they do, they take pains to gather a group together and explain why/what happened.

    Cons

•Location could be better. No convenient way to get from Caltrain to office. Yes, there’s a shuttle, but it’s endless, as it's not an AtHoc shuttle. It's a corporate-area shuttle.
Would love AtHoc sponsored bus from city. About 15 people live in city, enough to fill small van. And, of course, that number's only going to grow.
•Benefits could be better. Have to wait 9 months for 401k match and there’s no flexible spending.
Perhaps due to start-up status, but, sometimes, it's not clear who the primary stakeholder/approver is on a given project. Causes confusion and time-sapping swirl.

I have been working at AtHoc full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Free lunch Mon thru Thurs, office located in pleasant area.

    Cons

Highly political, do not value employees or treat them well, tough deadlines, subversive management, lack of collaboration.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop viewing people as Resources and instead view them as the key to getting the company to the next level. Ensure that salary, benefits, pay, and policies reflect this attitude. Seek to inspire employee loyalty by genuinely valuing your teams as people and working to provide mentorship, training, and growth opportunities at every level. Take an approach of transparency & collaboration to inspire trust.

    Pros

No politics. Integrity within management. Employees are committed to the mission of the company

    Cons

Driven and hard working environment give the purpose and mission of the company's product. Can make it tough for balancing work life and home life. Although I know the company is hiring more people

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have a terrific team of people and foundation for even greater success than already achieved. The challenge now is to maintain the company culture and level of talent while growing quickly

Experiencing growth pains, but still a good company to work for

    • Career Opportunities
Current Employee - Senior Software Engineer in San Mateo, CA
Current Employee - Senior Software Engineer in San Mateo, CA

I have been working at AtHoc full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Management team committed and passionate about the product. Good growth trajectory. Generally open to updating the technology stack. Nice mix of old timers and new hires on the engineering team. Free lunches. There does seem to be a commitment to improving development processes and becoming more agile.

    Cons

Hectic (and frequent) release schedules. Still burdened with "fire-fighting" mentality at times. New development projects tend to go more to new hires, which leaves older developers stuck with maintaining and supporting legacy technologies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to be transparent to employees about corporate financials and sharing information. It really does help to keep employee morale high.
